I dont do well when it comes to essays, but after taking his class i feel more confident about essays. Take advantage of showing your rough drafts of what you have so far so he can help you do better on the final draft. All the essays are current events and you WILL learn something. You only need one book that is about $10 for class.

This is an essay class! Keep it straightforward and concise. No fluff! He grades tough but gives helpful feedback and only sees room for improvement. Don't be afraid to share your opinion! If you don't stand for something, you can fall for anything. The papers relate to social issues which made the class so enriching. 10/10 take him and stay woke!

Professor Marheine is hands down THE BEST professor I've had at PCC. All of his topic are about current events effecting our world today and his class is never boring. He is super understanding of the fact that students deal with real life problems, and is genuinely caring. He is also so funny and inspirational. TAKE THIS CLASS!

AMAZING PROFESSOR! He makes his class really interesting because all of the novels we focused on could be related back to our own lives. Although he may be intimidating at first, he's really nice and always willing to help students with their essays. This class is challenging, so take it only if you're ready to work hard.

English 1c would retake his lectures are not boring he is very lenient when it comes to deadlines and he is really passionate about what he does. Though he could be a tough grader at times its only because he actually wants you to write better. Take the class if you want a fun way to learn to write better. Also its okay to skip class and no tests

(Spring 2017 for English 1B) I really enjoyed his class! I learned a lot from his lectures (take notes!). He's in his 70s & very knowledgeable. He has an interesting sense of humor. We had to purchase a couple of novels (each more or less $15). He takes attendance. Do well on essays; they make your grade. He allows re-do's and gives feedback.

Took Professor Marheine's class Summer 2017. Fast paced course but one of the best English professors I've ever had. He is incredibly smart and lectures are intellectual and stimulating with lots of good jokes and stories. Tough grader but makes you a better writer. Lots of reading and essays but what do you expect, it's English.

English1A Summer June-Aug2017 Topics for papers were about current societal issues. Socio-economic equality, public education, feminism/sexism, IVAW, torture after 9/11. Plenty of 1 on 1 help for each paper. Participate in discussions, give your opinions, volunteer to read. Every class was cut 30min early because we agreed to no breaks. 4:30-7:00

An amazing professor. Really cares about the material he teaches. There are several essays. But what do you expect? It's an English class, essay writing is required. That said, print a rough draft, and he'll give you pointers so you can get a good grade. Come to class, participate, bring your materials, and put away your phone, and you're good.

An all around great English critical thinking professor. Take his classes if you want to learn about real world ideas. Work on your verb tense structure on essays and take notes. If you do those two things you will pass with flying colors.

Had 5 total essays, failed 3 of them because of minor mistakes. Really hard class. But, he does let you rewrite the essay once more for a grade no higher than a C.

He was the first professor I had at PCC and what an amazing introduction to the college! I have never learned as much as I learned in his class. Took him for the 6 week course in the summer and although it was not easy, it was definitely not impossible. Use evidence to support your ideas and you will get a good grade on the essays.

One of the best college professors I've had thus far. His class can be tough, the reading and essays can seem overwhelming, but his classes are worth it. He is really nice and willing to help. He helped me become the writer I am today. Loved his classes so much, I took 3 of them. You will come out a much wiser individual.

By far one of the best professors at PCC. He will critically engage you, while at the same time guide you towards higher learning. He is not an easy, but will work with you and help you as much as he can. There will be a moderate amount of work and you are expected to extend him the courtesy that he shows you. Work is tedious but it is worth it.

Torturously long and disorganized lectures (mostly about war, death, and revolutions). Heavy reading. Picky on style and mechanics. Won't hesitate to kick you out if you don't bring a book or put your phone away by the time class starts. But he's very passionate and will certainly help you out. Just take detailed notes and go to his office nearby.

Funny, passionate, and sometimes kinda grumpy! His lectures are thought provoking but also very opinionated. If you had problems with mechanics in 1A don't take him. If you want a bit of a challenge and a class that helps you start to develop your own opinions on global issues, take him! Just make sure to respect his classroom or he'll chew you out

Wonderful professor. Beware, taking class involves challenging your notions of the world, please respond civilly. Lectures varied on a number of subjects: warfare, politics, economics, racism, imperialism, and class conflict to name a few. If you want to learn more about the problems facing modern society, take Marheine.

Absolutely amazing teacher, makes you really think about modern problems and opens your minds to how the world works. Really particular with mechanics of a paper, and he prefers short papers as long as they are precise, so don't give him a 7 page extremely elaborate essay when he asks for 4 page. Get to the point. "Short and sweet, keep it neat".
