Dr. Channell is awesome! He is a very kind and caring teacher, and responds to students group messages on learningsuite/is very easy to get in contact with. The classes I've taken from him have been easily passable, and he isn't a very harsh grader. The test questions are always super straight-forward.

I love Dr. Channell. He cares so much about what he teaches. He shows a lot of interesting videos in class. The tests are very straightforward and you know what to study for them. The quizzes are straight for the text book and easy to get full points. The writing assignments are interesting and I learned a lot from them. I loved this class!

You have a lot of work and it takes time to diagram all the sentences, but he is a great teacher. It would be such an awful class if it wasn't for him. He also provides an answer sheet for all your sentences so you can make sure you're doing them right. You get points for completion, but you need to make sure you know the stuff for the tests.

There is a lot of work in this class! Go to class having read the chapter and it'll all make sense. At first the sentence diagrams are hard but once you get the hang of it, it goes faster. I usually fell asleep because it was an 8am class and I worked at 4:30 am. Funny guy and easy going.

I would have hated this class if it weren't for him. He isn't scattered-if you come with a basic idea of the material, then he teaches you LITERALLY EVERYTHING. The sentences are difficult at first, but if you put in the time at the start you'll catch on. Never studied outside of paying attention in class and doing the sentences. Tests SO CLEAR.

50 sentences to diagram every week, they are hard at first but when you get the hang of them they are just tedious. He posts they answer keys online to grade as you go. There is a semester long essay to work on or a supplemental book to read with about 6 quizzes. Don't freak out if you don't get it the first week or two. There is lots of practice.

Dr. Channell is really funny but unclear and unorganized. Just read the text, good to the TA's office hours (they're really awesome and so so helpful). Tests are really not that bad.

Dr. Channell is great. 8 am is early, but I felt he is pretty witty and entertaining at times, which made lectures more interesting. Go to class--he will hand out worksheets and practice examples in class as you go over them together. He is really helpful. And nice. Also recommend going to TA reviews for exams!

Dr. Channell is very helpful and nice. He really knows his stuff. You must go to class because he writes a lot on the whiteboard. He is clear about what you need to know for the exams and assignments. He's a great teacher.

COMD 430 is taught half semester by Channell, half by Dromey. Channell is pretty easy, but a rather poor/dry lecturer. Mostly reads off his notes & has horrid slides. His 2 tests for his half are 50 mult choice. Some homework assignments that are easy to do & easy to get full pts, but can feel rather time consuming & pointless.

Dr. Channell has a very subtle, witty sense of humor that a lot of people pick up on. He's very funny and not boring at all like everyone's saying...sometimes his lectures are a little hard to stay focused on, but in his defense I think that it's hard to make sentence structure exciting all the time. His tests are easy, fair, and straightfoward.

Extremely boring and VERY confusing! Dr. Channell is hard to understand and he's very dry. He's the only one who teaches this class though, so you have to suffer through it.

His lectures are kind of boring, and he tells you what will be on the test & what to study-- but then actually doesn't ask you questions like the ones on the study guide. Tests are tough and hard to get a good grade on them.

*Disclaimer*-This class is going to be different in the fall.Im pretty sure hes still going to be the same lousy instructor though. Hes not very good at explaining things and is very dry. never has an example without tacos something everybody in the ComD major knows-good luck hopefully less grammar for you all. however I went from C- to B- :)

Funny geeky guy, lame but nice. Not always very clear, but happy to repeat himself if needed or try to give other examples. A lot of people hate grammar; I found it quite interesting, but then I'm something of a word geek. Lectures can be rather dry, but Dr Channell's quirkily amusing. Practice on his computer programs a LOT! Great for test prep!

Just to give everyone the heads up: starting in Fall 2011, COMD 332 is going to be completely restructured, according to the teacher. There is going to be more focus on the brain, and less on grammar, and will start using a new textbook. So bear in mind when you're reading the comments, that some of them may no longer be applicable. Just FYI

I honestly enjoyed his class, although I came away from it everyday with a stong craving for Taco Bell (if you take the class you will know what I mean). Advice: Go to every class if you want to do well. It may not seem like you are learning much but grammar can be tricky and takes more practice than you might think.

I HATE GRAMMAR!!! but he was very helpful and did well in the class. Whenever I studied, I always just emailed him my questions and got good answers for everything. Don't miss class and stay awake, his jokes are hilarious unless you are a crusty type of person who doesn't find anything funny. Make sure you review EVERYTHING for all the tests!

This was a great class. I actually learned a lot about grammar and I think he's hilarious. Most people who didn't like it just didn't understand the subject matter. If you go to class and do all the practice utterances he gives you, you'll get the hang of it and do fine on the tests. Class can be long sometimes, but what 75 minute class isn't?

Most boring class EVER. He is a nice man, but honestly, the jokes aren't funny, and we seriously spent a whole 1hr15min class and learned only 3min worth of material? I dread going to the class--and I'm usually fascinated by grammar. Not a hard class if you are able weed out the extraneous info, but boring class.
