Class isn't mandatory, but the only way you will pass is if you go. Tests are straight from his mouth and powerpoints. Lectures unorganized, have to keep up with where he is lecturing. Moves back in forth on topics. He tells you what is on the test, but its not always on there. STUDY EACH AND EVERYTHING MULTIPLE TIMES.

Dr. Mitchelson taught Fundamentals of GIS during the first summer session of 2006. He was very helpful and attendance was required. Lots of interesting information to learn about GIS using the computer. Thanks for helping me understand GIS better than I did at first.

Professor Mitchelson is a really great guy (and sometimes really funny). He tries so hard to help students do well. Go to class and take notes, and he tells you what EXACT questions will be on the tests. Class is chill if you have the patience to sit through slide shows and take notes. No textbook which is a plus!

i like going to this class. he makes it interesting most of the time and he really knows what he's talking about. his tests are straight from the notes. he tells you exactly what notes are on the test. hes really nice and is always willing to do what works best for you. take his class!!!

Fun, interesting guy! Not a class for slackers. Take notes! However, if you miss a class you can always go to his office to look @ the slides. Test has A LOT of definitions and fill in the blank (no bubble sheets).

I must agree with the others who said his lessons don't fit together. Lectures are unorganized and hard to follow. You must attend class and take very good notes. That's all you have to study for tests. He is funny at times and will help if you need it. He isn't the worst teacher, but you might see what others are teaching the course.

Great class, alot of work in the class, but it was intresting. Goto class and take notes, do the readings and exercises and you'll get atleast a B in the class, an A if you do well on the test. One of the best teachers I have had at ECU!

Guy is a jerk. Pretty full of himself. The work he assigns is largely to compliment his own research, i know all professors do this but most are not as blatant. Course is easy, but the professor sucks. Not helpful or to the point and makes an interesting topic boring and useless. Also, is unreliable and can't take what he says at face value

If you don't want to go to class then do not take Dr.Mitchelson. The people who **** about him are LAZY and NEVER went to class. The class itself is so interesting and informative. No book is required - everything is from your notes that you take off powerpoint. Go to class, take good notes, and you'll get an "A." Awesome professor!

Took the class as a summer class to transfer. I went to every class and did all the assignments, which were not hard, did most of the readings and still made an A. The tests were not hard, if you pay attention and can remember things well from a powerpoint, but if powerpoints are not to you likeing then you might not like this class. Overall easy

This professor's teaching methods are very unorganized. I signed up for Geography and ended up being taught economics. I feel that I did not learn much. His test are hard. Make sure you go to class every session and take extensive notes and study hard.

He's is a great guy, funny and charismatic. However, I feel the way he teaches is very cumbersome and unorganized. For me, everything we learned just didn't fit together. You can do great in his class, but you'll have to come to class EVERYTIME and pay CLOSE attention. I made that mistake and failed
