Comment:
Despite his raunchy humor and lack of organization, Rosbottom is a extremely knowledgeable guy who dives past the history books and into compelling literature and film. Lectures can be a bit sprawling, but he's very thoughtful and educated. Thin-skinned or humorless students won't like him much. He pokes fun at students and himself. Excellent guy.

Quite a well spoken man. Gives off intellectualism without being overly cloying. He has a visible passion in the material, although his students may not necessarily always share it. As a first year seminar, his Pariscape class prepared me for college writing without inundating my schedule with papers.

You want to be his drinking buddy. I liked his commentary system which forced you to write concisely and he provides an interesting reading list, but blah lectures.

Really teaches comparative lit courses, even though Amherst doesn't call them that. He makes makes European ideas and culture really interesting topics. Likes to make fun of people in class, and has a raunchy sense of humor.

Maybe not quite as sharp as he used to be, but extremely well-read, cultured, and interesting to listen to. Highly recommended you seek him out outside class. Students that know him well genuinely like him and respect his intellect, which owing to his disorganized style of lecturing doesn't always come across in the classroom.

Pariscape. Very condescending man. Treats students like children (pats their heads), and is quite arrogant. Will push you around in class if he wants to make fun of you. Only upside is that he has a comedic personality and class is easy(no tests, just a few essays and group projects). You can more or less chill in this class while he lectures. C-

The only high marks Rosbottom gets for clarity are those for the clarity of his b.s. He's disrespectful and insulting towards any student who says more interesting things than he does. I took a class with him and Prof Frank that he came close to ruining for me. What's this guy doing at amherst?

A terrible professor- more interested in putting on a show to cater to the baserminded liberals in the class than actually teaching. I learned nothing! Lacks respect for ideas different from his own, especially when well-reasoned. Very unprofessional behavior towards others. A shame.

A hoax of a professor. Tries to animate class with supposedly "outrageous" remarks- popular with sheltered students. Learned nothing.

Prof. Rosbottom was the first professor I met at college -- and he's still one of my favorites. He's funny, quirky, eloquent, interested in everything, and loves to have a good time in class.

Professor Rosbottom is another of Amherst's over-rated professors. He is somewhat entertaining to listen to, but offers almost no insight into the works that he assigns. He is only "hard" if you are a freshmen, or just don't know how to write.
