A wonderful, wonderful man. Hilarious during lectures and a great storyteller. Easily approachable and helpful when confused. Hard to read handwriting, but will translate if asked.

Comment:

I took intro to political theory with Professor Schmidt and his lectures are amazing! He tells stories about his own life that bring to life age old political texts. I wrote some of my best papers in his class. He facilitated great conversations and got us all thinking.

Amazing professor! Take any and all classes you can with him! He makes history feel like a story. I've taken four of his classes so far and I am looking forward to many more. He will look at your rough drafts. It's an easy A as long as you read, attend lectures, and make logical arguments. He doesn't care what you argue as long as you argue well

The BEST professor I've ever encountered. This man is professional, personable, knowledgeable, and so much more. I took POS 101 & 290 with him my 1st semester and have taken 1 or more of his classes every semester since (POS 234, 390, 392, 393, & 399). Homework Only Reading Examinations Either 3 definition/significance exams OR 3 papers.

Hes a good teacher and his papers arent the normal research papers. The work he gives is more tech writing (things one could potentially be required to do in their future career). You dont need the book (unless you plan on skipping class its a good reference) - with that said i would try to skip class as little as possible.

Schmidt has been one of my most favorite professors. His lectures have always been enlightening and I have taken multiple classes with him. He is absolutely one of the best professors USM has!

Dr. Schmidt is the best professor at USM. He is very helpful and clearly happy in his life. He is 100% clear and if you don't do your homework and study for exams, you will certainly fail. He treats everyone equally despite physical/mental disabilities & race. He grades you fairly based on exams and essays and NEVER based on your politics or belief

What an awesome lecturer! He makes boring topics come alive by including stories and anecdotes to keep you interested. I definitely would have taken more than two of his classes if I'd had him earlier in my college career. He also treats his students like adults and grades very fairly.

Professor Schmidt takes subjects that are somewhat boring and makes them entertaining. He treats students like adults, not children, which is also really nice (since we are in college!) I'm taking more classes with him next semester because I enjoyed POS 290 so much!

Schmidt is super hilarious! It's really hard to sit in a lecture for 2 hours with any professor so I'd say it can be boring at times. He likes to make jokes a lot as well as swear. It was a mandatory class for me but if I were to take another political science class; I'd take it with him.

Lectures were fast & funny/engaging. Only graded work was exams, 2 midterms & final, all where you must choose 5/10 short answer terms & 1/3 essay topics. It's hard to know how well you're doing until you get exams back, which sometimes took a while. He does give helpful study guides & is very friendly. I would love to take a class with him again!

One of USM's greatest assets! His lecture flows beautifully and breathes life into some texts that seem really dry. Class discussions are open, comfortable and collective. Even though he's brilliant you never feel like he's talking down to you. He has a great sense of humor and is really approachable in and out of class.

This class is exam based. The tests are tough but totally doable if you put in study time with the guide he hands out. Schmidt is a fast talker and each lecture is jam-packed with info that you will need to succeed on the exams, so don't skip. He offers lots of pauses for questions so you won't get lost. Overall, great prof with clear expectations.

I'm waling away w/ 12 credits of Schmidt under my belt and I'm a better person for it. He teaches cause he loves it & truly cares for his students. Take every single class you can w/ him. If you're late, bring him (black) coffee or food. But try not to be late, he doesn't like that. And don't pack up before he says class is over!

I could care less about the subject matter, but he made it so appealing. I loved his class and would LOVE to take another with him even though poli sci is not my interest.
