Comment:
I did like Dr. Depaolis as person, but he is a bit sporadic in his teachings. I am not a person who is strong in math so it was hard to follow some concepts. You can easily pass from the book and power points. I was frustrated, but there is really nothing you can do about it. He is very caring and will help, but I did struggle.

Lectures are honestly a waste of time, especially during the second half of the semester. Easy labs, just study really really really really hard for the midterm and final. Know material from notes, every page he assigns in the book, and your labs/exercises. Sucks that 70% of your grade comes from 2 tests but study hard and you'll be fine.

Depaolis is absolutely AMAZING! These bad reviews are from people that clearly don't know him. He is very smart and can sometimes be condescending in office hours, but he really means well and will always give you his undivided attention. The tests are very straight forward, and I thought they were very easy. My favorite professor I've had.

He's very, very intelligent and will sometimes go overboard w/ information, especially w/ physics/engineering type information. The GA's are much better for help then his officer hours as he cares for only conceptual type questions. Go to GA's for the homework problems (they may give the answers). Challenging information to grasp for SLP majors.

If you actually use the textbook and follow along with the powerpoints in class, you can do okay. The labs are really confusing because the directions are horrible but once you figure out how to do them, they really are not that bad. Read the chapters for the test VERY thoroughly.

Worst professor I've ever had! Extremely hard to follow his lectures because he can't stay on topic. Tests are very hard! I feel like I had to teach myself the entire class. He should not be allowed to teach in the CSD program! And he is useless if you go ask for help for his class or as an advisor! Constantly gives out incorrect advising info.

Dr.Depaulis Is a great teacher, he will help you understand ANYTHING in office hours, and he gives you assignments that are relative to the material and boost your grade. His lectures are goods, and he gives you tangents that help you relate the info. Favorite teacher this semester.

Dr. Depaolis is dry and spends most of the class rambling and not going over the core material on the test. He obsesses over the book by Pinker, but we barely covered the matrial; reading it was a waste of my time. He does explain the labs very well. I feel like I have come away from this class with no more knowledge than when I first entered.

I spend my class going "where is Dr.Halling, please bring him back!" Depaolis is very dry and really bore you. His information seems a lot harder than the first part of the semester and his tests are a lot harder. He just doesn't present the information in the best way.

I'm really not a fan. The first half of the class with Dr. Halling is AMAZING. It all made sense, but Rory confuses me. I didn't know what he expected of me. Make sure to go to class and memorize the textbook like your life depends on it! He enjoys asking very nit picky questions.

Somewhat challenging course; although he is very willing to help outside of class if you go to his office. Keeping up with the lectures and notes is a must for doing well on the final - don't put it off to the last minute. He's a very nice person, but rather dry at times.

Rory is too smart for his own good. He is a great teacher .. if you already understand the material. Test is not incredibly hard, but if you dont study, youre screwed. One thing is for sure though- he is very passionate about his profession!

Very accessible to students, IF you ask for help. Willing to spend a lot of time one-on-one on difficult topics. Keep up, ask questions, be ACTIVE in class, seek outside help. Overall, an EXCELLENT teacher. Organized, efficient and allows free-thinkin

ahhh Rory....he's too smart to teach undergrad classes! most days you end the class with a blank stare feeling most of the material has passed straight over your head. If you're a CSD major, you can't avoid him. Good luck.
