Dr. Doughty is by far one of the most incredible professors I have ever had. The man can walk into a lecture and glance at his notes once. He can also pull on random knowledge to give more background information, etc. He's tough, but it is not impossible to do well in his classes. If you care, he will care.

Comment:

Professor Doughty's class was definitely not one where you can afford to skip readings or only skim the material. Sometimes the amount of reading was a bit overwhelming, but it was always worth it for the amazing lectures! Doughty KNOWS HIS STUFF. Definitely recommend taking him! You wont regret it!

Professor Doughty does not mess around what so ever. Although his class is hard and he is a tough grader, he really is a good guy. The amount of respect and effort you show him, is the amount of effort and respect you will get back from him.

One of the top 3 classes I took at Ursinus. Quality professor. That is difficult to find at Ursinus. He truly cares. He just wants you to be interested in the material. The subject matter was interesting in itself, but w his teaching style, I don't know how anyone could not be interested. Just do your work and show up to class. Don't slack off

Professor Doughty is the hardest and most intimidating professor at Ursinus. He doesn't care if you're a history major, you're still expected to be flawless. The expectations are definitely high, dont overload on courses if you're in one of his classes. His class alone made me busy. He is a good guy overall though. He just really cares.

LOTS of reading. You will spend 90% of your time reading for this course. Surprise open notes quizzes, so if you don't take notes, oh well. Strict bathroom and attendance policies. Likes to call on you if you don't contribute, so say something you know before he calls on you to answer something you don't.

Comment:

Ross Doughty is one of the most brilliant men to have ever walked this Earth. I have never had a more challenging professor in my entire academic career, but it was worth every minute of it. I learned more than I ever possibly thought I could about the course material, and I left his class better prepared for college.

It's a 300 level course, so of course it'll be hard. There were times I considered dropping the class, but I'm glad I stuck with it. I learnt a lot during this semester. He knows everything about anything, it seems. Plus, he's more than willing to help you if you're stuck on a paper. Almost sad I'm not a history major...

Doughty is infamous and very polarizing. If you work really hard you WILL get a good grade. His is honest to god brilliant. His classes are Socratic discussion style, with plenty of digressions and wonderful rants. He will press you on some subjects. Take extensive notes, and if he belittles you don't take it personally.

Doughty is the man. Be forewarned: he is a tough grader, and he has high expectations, but they are reasonable and if you do all of the work like you're supposed to you'll get a good grade. He has a razor sharp intellect and he's not afraid to use it. If you love polemical rants, this is your guy.

Hardest teacher ever. You have to try extremely hard and be a suckup to have a chance of getting a B- or better. If you disagree w him or raise your hand when he asks the class who is a "conservative" you are screwed. He does not mess around. He'll call you out for being 1 min late or for being one sentence short on a 5 page paper. He is mean.

I actually had him for CIE200 and HIST207 in the same semester. I miraculously got an A in CIE and a B+ in Hist. He pushes his students hard, and he really knows his stuff, but he does NOT take any excuses. You NEED to be on top of your game. I also honestly think he plays favorites and this is from a student that got decent grades in his classes.

Professor D. He really is a piece of work. For CIE, he is very difficult, very belittling, and very condescending in class. One on one, he is a lot nicer, but in class, he has no mercy. If you take his class, make sure that you do all the reading because he will not hold back from putting you on the spot. His paper topics are difficult and long.
