Dr. Hanashiro is one of the best professors I've ever had! I've now taken 2 different classes of his because he was so great! His lectures are really interesting and you can tell he's very enthusiastic about the material he covers. Very understanding and helpful if you ask! 10/10 would recommend.

For a 100 level class, I struggled tremendously. He just lectured with no notes or powerpoint to go off of, so if you didn't understand what he was saying you're basically done for. Miss one class and you've missed an era of history. He only gives three exams and a map quiz, so doing well on those is very important to the grade you receive.

Dr. Hanashiro is a TERRIFIC professor, history can be a bit of a dry subject, but his lectures are actually very engaging. Besides the class being super interesting, the guy is a really nice dude and always willing to help students. Him and Daasa are THE best history teachers hands down

DO NOT MISS CLASS!! He goes over an entire era of history within one class session. All tests are based on notes, and I usually take about 3 pages of notes front and back per class. History isnt my strong suit, and the tests are (in my opinion) tough. On average I score 85% with LOTS of preparation, studying my notes, and reading the book.

He is a good instructor who is enthusiastic and knowledgeable regarding history. Don't miss class! The notes you take from lectures are life saving and I am currently holding what is probably a barely-passing grade due to having to miss class so often this semester! The exams are the only grades you get. Extra credit is not easy/simple, either.

Hanashiro is a good professor. He gives one of the most organized and engaging lectures I've ever seen. On the downside, the only grades in his class are 3 tests. It is critical that you pay attention in class and take good notes, since almost everything on the exams is from in-class lectures (so try not to miss any class).

Overall, a solid prof. Hes tries to be fun and funny during his lectures. He's very organized and knows so much about everything; don't be afraid to ask stuff! I never used the book, but his 3 exams (the only grades) typically include a question or two that can only be found in the book. No huge impact though.

Took for 112 & 113. You MUST attend class or you will be lost. I missed a few classes due to work & had a hard time recovering. Book can be used to fill in lost lecture material or to enrich your exam essay-which he grades harshly. He really knows his history & is extremely nice. Great teacher whom I will be taking again in the Fall.

Dr. Hanishiro was and continues to be an excellent history professor. It is no surprise that he is the department chair. His classes require attendance and some reading. Also, his tests are only as hard as you make them. If you have an interest on any era of Asian history, this is the man for you.

Took this class over the summer, I do not find his lectures engaging but whether boring. There were 3 exams and quite tough (because of the essays) I believe he grades to harshly. Also, DO NOT buy the book it was a waste of money never opened it! He only gave little extra credit opportunity and tons of note taking! Only take this course if you need

Dr. Hanashiro was amazing. His test were descent, mostly based on his lecture notes only acouple of questions are from the book. You must take extensive notes, but Roy himself is an awesome, helpful man. I would so take HIS 113 with him. You rock HANASHIRO!! I couldn't believe I got an A+ but it happened.

He is very organized and clear on the material. The exams are matching, multiple choice, and one essay at the end of it. Some questions come from the book and not the lectures, but not enough to make me read! He also gave us an easy map quiz, and allowed us to do extra credit assignments (but they are not really needed). A
