Most rude professor I have ever met for the last 3 years at Rutgers. The truth is, the more time I spent on studying class materials, the more effort I put on forum discussion, the lower grade I would get. BTW, if you are divided into TA Christina Chiknas's section, just drop it. She is even much more horrible than this professor.

Took fo History of Rutgers online, was just looking for an easy elective to fill a requirement. Insane amount of readings each week, multiple long videos, and had to do one post Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday night each week for full credit. Even when you do all this you get the minimum grade. Did all the work and got C+, rude too guy too.

I took Patterns in Civ:Love because I thought it sounded like an easy A ( The material is very dense and lectures are so dry. There was 1 midterm and a final. Both are the same format and pretty difficult. Didn't buy/read any of the books (6) and passed w a B by using google. No homework at all. Attendance is taken and counts as participation.

Most rude professor I've ever had at Rutgers. He insults people in the chat if they're confused about something. The course has too much reading and unecessarily tough grading. They act like its a 400 level class when its just something people take for SAS requirements. Take something else to fulfill it or you'll regret it.

Comment:
This professor is adamant about decimals. He will not by any chance round grades. If you're on the border between a C and a B by 0.5 point forget about it. He's not considerate of students and is rude in replying to questions that students may have if they're confused about an assignment. Work is not too hard but its not an easy A.

If you're a science major DO NOT take DeathLove as a history requirement. You have to work really hard and the lengthy readings will take away from you're other classes. Plus, history doesn't normally interest me, but this class seemed to be a little extra boring. Bell is nice but gives hard exams. All quote identifications and essays.

Comment:
Teaching the Europe proponent of the course, there are quite a few readings to get involved in. While they're interesting reads, I found trouble when I'd challenge my interpretation of the story to his at times. Other than that, attendance helps to take notes on what's needed in exams, and the bridges drawn between Europe and Japan are impressive.

Level 100 class and I'm reading 100-200 pages (full books) every class, two times per week. It almost seems as if they want to overload you with reading. Unless you have an unusual amount of free time or you are a speed reader, I highly suggest staying away form this "class".

There's lots of reading, but if you read all that is required, the exams will be a breeze. Definetly recommended for those who find it easy to let their ideas flow through writing. In addition, the enthusiasm displayed by both Professors makes the learning experience that much more enriching! The TA's also offer revision sessions DONT SKIP THEM!

I am a senior history major with a 3.8 GPA. This class has more reading requirements than any history course I've ever taken. Worst of all, all the assignments are works of fiction, not even history readings. Bell is arrogant, close-minded, and extremely unhelpful to students. Does not care if you fail. GPA killer- stay away

I took History&The News. First online course I've taken. Not difficult, but demanding. Had to write an Op-Ed every week as well as post multiple comments on a discussion board. Op-Eds count for 30%, Discussion 30%, and the final paper was 40%. Does not give the topic of the final paper until the week before its due. Learned a lot. Would recommend

I'm a science major. Taking this class to fulfill a requirement. Should've never taken it. Complete BS. Grades way too hard for a 100 level class. I try harder trying to get a B in this class than Orgo. Ridiculous. Don't take it.

I'm a serious history major and this class ruined my gpa for the semester. Would have had a 4.0 for two years then this class came along. Too much reading for a 100 level and the grading was too hard. Do not take.

Patterns in Civ: The execution is disjointed, unorganized, and confused. Not difficult, but is made un-necessarily hard. 2/3 of class failed the mid-term.I am an honors student in history; struggling to maintain a "B". Don't take this class if you are a serious history major, it's a wannabee course. It is a GPA killer. Not recommended whatsoever.

I came into this class really excited and am leaving it with a total feel of disappointment. It was a good class but the work is way above what it should be for a 100 level class. It is absolutely ridiculous. I have never had to read so much in my life and I'm history major. Good professor though.

Co-taught with Roden. Ridiculous amount of reading for a 100-level class (9 books PLUS online readings). Can't say I learned too much. I have no idea where they got their theories, because some of it is questionable.
