I genuinely love this teacher and her excitement and true mastery of microbiology was what kept me concentrated and wanted to come to her lectures everyday. She does tend to go on tangents about biology a bit and gets off topic... Her lectures are really everything one would need for tests too. I thoroughly enjoyed her class though.

One of the best professors in TCC. Her lectures are awesome and she is very animated during her class. Lab reports are due once a week and are critical to your success! I will dearly miss her...take her class before she retires!

I absolutely loved Dr. Mikels! One of the best teachers I've had! I hate chemistry, but having her for chemistry every morning made my day! She says some of the funniest things. She's really goofy at times, but she is a really good teacher. She was always willing to help :) I highly recommend her!

First off, coming into this class I was bad at math and science. Chem is a little bit of both. But Dr. Mikels was super helpful and my FAVORITE professor at the school. Super helpful, funny and I got a B even though I did poorly on tests. Pay attention to lecture and do your homework, the material is hard but its do-able. Take her if you can!!

Passionate, inspiring, endearing, and patient, Dr. Mikels looks at each of her students as if they were her sister, who struggled to pass RN prereq̢۪s, and eagerly wants to help you (her sister) pass the class. The class is easy if you study (I crammed pretest) and ask questions; she even gives obvious clues regarding test essay questions.

Dr. Mikels is by far my most favorite professor. She provides ppts of her lecture and is very clear as to what to expect on her exams, even what essay questions will be. Her exams require an applicable knowledge of the material - so study time is very important. But she explains the material very well. You can tell she loves microbiology.

I first took Dr. Mikels class when I wanted to retake bio 160 over and decided to take her class again for chem 110 and I absolutely looooved her! Her class is not easy by all means but she explains the material in a fun way that CAN be easily understood, if you study your notes and take time to understand the material. Loved going to her class!

Great biology teacher! She made a very difficult subject interesting and fun to learn. She lectures from her powerpoint so the main textbook is not necessary (but it is helpful). The Lab Atlas is also very helpful. Keep VERY good lab journal notes as you get to use your lab journal on the lab practical.

Dr Mikels is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She is very knowledgeable, and very passionate about teaching. The class is not the easiest, but she is always happy to help. This is more like a typical university class than community college. Not an easy A, but a positive experience that will be with me forever.

Dr. Mikels is a great instructor. She knows her stuff but goes through material very quickly and covers a lot in one lecture. Recording lectures was very helpful. Her tests are based on lectures. Lab practical exams are open note, but you can only use your lab notebook.

Great teacher and very knowledgeable! She made it simple to understand "critters" and if you were confused on anything, she was more than willing to help you understand. The class is not easy, BUT if you show up, take good notes, and actually take the time to study you will do well. a recorder helps, she is very fair :)

Dr. Mikels is a great teacher. She's very organized and really loves the subject. She goes through material very quickly, but is more than willing to help you understand any difficult concept. Exams are completely based on lectures and are graded leniently. Highly recommend this professor.

This class is extremely difficult. I don't want to say Dr.Mikels is a horrible teacher, but what else can I say? She expects everyone to already know the material beforehand! Don't make the same mistake I did. I wasted an attempt with her. There are people who got an 'A' with her, but almost everyone I knew in that class has to retake it.

like others before. loves what she does...but not easy and very confusing at times. power point is so vague must go to lecture and study text even more. tells you all you need too know is lecture...good luck with that. I recommend if just taking it for credit not a career take someone else or study 2 hours per day!

She's a hoot! She's wicked smart and loads of fun! Dr. Mikels expects you to know your stuff, but will explain things as simply as she can if you ask her to (especially if you ask her after class). Study the power points and your own lecture notes (write down anything she extra she does or says on the board), and you'll do fine in her class.

The other reviewers are right in saying this is not a class to get an easy A in, but they are wrong saying that she doesn't make sense or doesn't explain things well (i.e. to make things simple, she'll compare it to molecular tap dancing). People get frustrated with the difficult subject, then blame her for getting a low grade on a test.

THE WORSE TEACHER EVER!!! She loves what she does but the way she teaches does not make sense to the students. Her powerpoints are confusing. Her tests are not even on what she teaches and expects you to read the book but does not go over the readings. TAKE ANOTHER TEACHER IF POSSIBLE!!!
