I just finished law school, and I realized looking back just how good this teacher was when I took him freshman year at SJSU. His courses taught me to write concisely and directly which has been a huge factor in my post-collegiate success. Amazing even if I didn't realize it at the time.

one mistake and you get an F? only if you didn't follow his dirctions. i found this teacher to be so refreshing; he actually did what he said he'd do. makes rules yes and he expects you to follow them. is that so hard? wasn't for me. i got a B+ and i hate english classes. so yeah if you don't meat his word counts, he gives you an F. duh.

My boyfriend and I took him for both English 1a and 1b after being recommended to by friends. He was avery good, and now as we graduate, we realize it even more. He was friendly, helpful, honest and communicable. He wrote us great letters of rec for grad school. He was sick for a few years so he missed alot of class, but he ALWAYS helped us alot.

He's a cool teacher if you follow the freakin rubric he hands to you the first week of class. Follow it and you'll be good. I took him for English 1A got a B+, and took him during summer for 1B and got an A-. Read the books and go to class for the essays and you'll do fine. He does grade on grammer, but he's not that hard on it. Just follow the rub

I took him for 1a last term, and I chose him again for 1b this term. It's hard to believe people wouldn't respond well to his teaching: he's direct, clear and honest about what he wants and expects. If you don't appreciate that, why are you in school?? He has a grading system he makes sure everyone knows. I had to work hard for a "B"; so what?

Sam is an amazing professor, with a passion for teaching. His 1B course is much more difficult, but he challenges you. He is very direct with what he wants done on the essays. Sam always makes each class interesting and his personality alone makes you want to keep coming back. His six elements of writing is one of the most useful tools.

He was annoying. He didn't really talk to students he didn't know, mainly those he had for Eng 1A. He cursed ALOT. Always complaining. He did have a good rubric for writting essays. I did like how we never had class, but seemed to have been a waist of my money..

He was an awful teacher!!! He canceled class almost every week, and most of the time it was last minute. He's very rude if someone has a question, and he makes the person feel like any question was stupid. If you don't follow exactly what he says, you will do VERY badly. I do NOT reccommend taking him.

Very enjoyable teacher. Liked the way he graded essays. For long essays, he accepts rough drafts in which he explains how we can fix our essays. Reasonable amount of work. Goes off topic, but it's quite enjoyable. Occasional canceled classes were nice. Definitely recommend this class as a good way to begin your college career.

THE WORST ****ING TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. His responses to my emails (which took him a week to get to) were all stupid and he does not know what he is talking about at all. He always cancelled class at the last minute and never emailed anyone until late at night the day before when people were possible sleeping. EFF HIM!

Hes the most direct teacher i've had at state -- tells you what is what so you know where you stand. he is brutally honest. he's funny sometimes but when he is tired, you can tell and classes are different. take him and give him mountain dew to keep him perky! writing system he teaches is really good; he helped me get an intership too!

instead of lecture, he talks like chatting with us but he goes off topics ALL THE TIME! essays aren't so hard to do, just follow the instructions VERY CAREFULLY. really easy to get help through email unlike some professors aren't so nice when you ask through email.

He just didn't participate much in the class. His comments were cryptic and glib-- gave me the feeling he didn't want to take the time with individual students.

Critical thinking class. Learned a lot; we did a lot of political stuff, and he never took sides unlike others in the English department. Very fair and balanced. Taught me to write so well I aced the WST and passed through 100W without having to take it! YeES! Seriously, I hated english in high school, and he just made it so much better than ever!
