Professor Coale is the funniest, most amazing professor here at Wheaton. He is super accommodating and will let you turn in a paper early to be looked over or redo one if you aren't happy. Super fun guy with so many great stories about his life. He does tend to take over discussion classes a bit, but this is not a complaint. I recommend him fully.

Coale's an amazing guy. He's funny as hell, he is extremely smart, and he's so knowledgable. Everyone should take a class with him, and also get to know him to hear his life stories. He's a little unclear on what he wants sometimes, but he makes up for it with his awesome personality

he is the best! i enjoy the class so much. he is so funny and willing to help. i like his class so much because it is very comfortable and interesting. he is not a hard grader as he gives us chances to revise paper for better grades!

This is the best professor I have ever had. He is not the typical professor who will give you overly harsh critique so you will learn, he wholeheartedly believes in his students which provides such motivation to succeed. If you have any struggles with writing, he is the best person for help. Also, he is an incredibly interesting person.

This as an amazing lecture. The class was big so there was not as much discussion as I would have liked. Coale is brilliant, though, so it didn't really matter. He is a genius and you should take his class just to hear some of the thoughts that he shares.

Simply amazing. Doesn't keep you to task like a 5th grader: he expects you to do the readings, and if you don't, your tests and and essays will simply suffer. Also, extremely funny, insightful, and respectful of student opinions. He made the Puritans interesting...can't wait for Modern American Lit next semester!

Sam is an amazing, brilliant professor. You would be doing yourself a disservice, should you forgo taking a class of his. He is, without a doubt, an expert in his field. Unlike people of this caliber, Sam is incredibly funny -- even at 8:30AM. He's insightful, dedicated to his students, and gives you your $48k worth of tuition. Read his books too!

Wonderfully engaging, and unafraid to be controversial.Is willing to tell it like it is, but manages to make everything he says funny. Lenient with attendance, but missing his class is a loss because he is a genuinely entertaining professor.
