I believe his intentions are good, but this man needs to seriously step up his game and enter into the 21st century. No syllabus, no grading criteria. He printed off a course packet for everyone, then asked us each for $40. If he would have just posted the readings on blackboard, they would have been free.

I've taken three classes (two workshops and one lit class) with Chip, and all were great! He's a wildly brilliant person who is genuinely interested in classroom engagement and student success. His insight into writing and reading is top notch. Always has time to talk with students. That said, you MUST be proactive about scheduling conferences.

Great teacher and a funny guy. "As you may have noticed by now, I am a gay black man." Just show up to class, open your mouth and get an A. Fun atmosphere, very liberal. Wonderful criticism on short stories, and very accomodating to student's needs. Practically a walking dictionary, and very passionate to his work. Take his class if you can.

Chip never, ever prepared for class. I had a 1-on-1 tutorial w/ him & he never did his work. He even fell asleep once! To make matters worse, I did all my work (he, again, didn't) & he still gave me an A- (as opposed to an A). Avoid him.
