Comment:
Kessler is very passionate about the material he is teaching and clearly knowledgeable about the subject matter. He was able to take the material and create engaging and thought provoking conversations for his students to partake in. The only difficult thing is that the standards for his papers can be ambiguous.

He knows the material very well, but he's not very open to talking about different opinions on it. He's a very tough grader, and offers bad advice during office hours to how to improve papers. I was interested in the material before taking this class, but I'm leaving it more confused and frustrated than anything else.

Busy students will struggle to read about 10 books during the semester, plus two essays. Very tough essay grader, gives very little and weak feedback at office hours and after grading. Boring lectures of quiet, repetitive rambling by professor during "class discussions". More about his philosophical ideas on novels than science, society or tech.

Although he was a little hard, he made old philosophers and political theorists very interesting. He is a very wise fellow. Go visit him during his office hours to get better grades on your two essays.

I took Prof. Kessler's 361 class & 462 seminar. Both were two very challenging classes, but worth it. Kessler is very passionate about his field. He does give weekly quizzes which count for a lot as do his papers. He is a strict grader because he wants your absolute best. I recommend going to his office hours. He teachers you about politics & life

He graded my papers surprisingly harsh, leaving me with confusing criticism and telling me that I had missed the ball. Even after changing the way I wrote I did worse. We had quizzes every other day (which I loathe) and only papers other than that. Might want go to office hours before you turn in your paper, he encourages it.

Very tough class. Excellent instructor. All you have to do is take good notes, and when test time comes around, you never have to crack open the book. Lots of reading required for this class. Still, he was a likeable guy, and has a good sense of fairness.

Dr. Kessler is a great lecturer. He is the only political theory professor at NCSU, and it would be prudent to take his course. He is thoughtful, articulate, and easily accessible. I was apprehensive about political theory, but Dr. Kessler's class was thought provoking and inspiring. He is by far the best political science professor at NCSU.

He is very serious about his subject. He is extremely smart, but he does not try to pretend to have all the answers. He is also one of the best professors I have ever encountered who present two opposing views without giving away which side he is on. Very few professors are open-minded like him.

He really knows what he's talking about and is a very sweet man, but his tests are pretty hard and he grades his papers even harder.
