It's a love-hate relationship taking her class. She's extremely passionate and helpful outside of class, but the readings for each class can get to 70+ pages and each midterm covers the amount of material a "normal" class would cover on a final. Each midterm comes with a paper too. Also, she looks about 45... but is 60! What is her secret?

DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN EASY CLASS WITH MINIMAL WORK! She makes a review packet 5 days before the tests with every possible question. This is only way to know what is covered on the test. However, she wants the most minuscule details from the reading and you will be staying up very late into the morning trying to find what she wants.

Amazing professor who gets students engaged with the material in lectures, readings can be kinda long and dry, but the exam reviews are extremely thorough, so there aren't any surprises come test day. Such a wonderful person to chat with during office hours and truly a gem. TAKE GREEK ARCHAEOLOGY (i'm lookin at you giorgio tsoukalos)!!!!!

Of all the classes I've taken at Emory I've learned the most from Dr. Blakely's. Don't take her class for an easy A. Don't be let down by a bad first exam score, she will work with you. Yes, she is a stickler to detail, but she gives you every possible test question to review. Be prepared for the time the review packets take.

Avoid if possible. Put my heart and soul into this class, was very passionate about the material, and thought I was doing so well... but somehow got a B, even with As on the exams and ample extra credit. She also lost several of my writing assignments so I didnt get credit for work I did, which in total are 40% of the class grade.

the powerpoints are in papyrus font and if that doesn't grind your gears then having comparable amounts of busywork homework assignments just might. only take if 329 you're actually passionate about the subject

Don't take if you're looking for an "easy" class to offset the work from harder classes. Lectures barely relate to the readings which are very dense. Goes on tangents a lot and jokes about how her tenure lets her do what she wants. Exams are based off readings, not lectures. Nice person though and very knowledgeable -- just not the best teacher.

You don't need to do the readings ahead of class but definitely before each exam. She makes a very long, thorough review packet for each exam that has every possible question on it. Best thing to do is to make a Google Doc and split it with 2 or 3 other people because it is so long. Writing assignments are completion grades.

Enthusiastic teacher. usually as long as you have some interest in the material, you'll enjoy the class. She gives weekly quizzes in class, that test your knowledge of the reading. They usually require you to actually read the readings or at least, read very carefully online synopses of the readings. Shes also pretty and gives a lot of xtra credi

I love Professor Blakely. She's the reason that I chose Classical Civs as my second major. She's hilarious, engaging, and somehow makes the blood sacrifice of 100 oxen (Greek+Roman Religion) sound interesting. Her exams are straight off of the review sheets. That being said, the review sheets are very long and detailed. If you do them you'll be ok.

She's the best looking professor at Emory, by far. Lectures can be boring, but she gives lots of midterm questions and every possible test question is on the study guide. If you do the readings and do the study guides, you should do fine. Also, she offers a lot of extra credit if you are struggling, so she really wants you to get an A.

Dr. Blakely is a very kind, enthusiastic professor. She truly has a passion for Classics and it shows in her lectures. Her lectures can get confusing, but they're generally somewhat interesting. Nicest professor I've had at Emory. Easy class, she gives a study guide of all possible test questions (beware, it is LONG). Great professor. Would retake.

Dr. Blakely is most definitely one of my favorite professors at Emory. She is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about her subject, and doe her best to try and diffuse that onto her students. Her tests are hard, and a lot of prep is needed, but she gives you everything you need to know beforehand and is MORE than willing to talk to you.
