Sandy was a wonderful teacher and very fair, very helpful grader. On a personal level, she's one of the warmest, kindest professors I've had. She invited our seminar over to her house multiple times for reunions, and has given me the most incredible support as my advisor. Get to know her outside the classroom if possible. Love this lady

I adore Sandy. She is wonderful and caring and if you go to her during office hours she will help guide you in your writing process. I feel so prepared for my upcoming more advanced English classes, but also for my other classes that require a lot of writing such as history or philosophy. Sandy has clear expectations and doesn't baby her students.

one of my favorite classes i've ever been in... a really well organized class, (small,) always productive discussions where we all had a voice and got to know each other, a mutually respectful and positive environment. obviously really treated us as equals and wanted us to get a lot out of the class

Always willing to listen to whatever problems I had, and gave me the help I needed, but made me figure things out for myself, as well. A tough teacher, but I got something valuable out of all the work I did for her. She was a wonderful teacher, and an amazing adviser!

Comment:

Sandy has some students she loves, some she hates, and makes clear which is which. The quality of work, however, is independent from who she picks to favor. That's why her ratings range so much. Her expectations are high but vague so she cannot offer guidance to reach them. It's trial and error. The English dept would be stronger without her.

Sandy's wonderful. Class lectures/discussions can get to be dry at times, and she can be a tough grader, but she knows.. everything there is to know. She loves the material, and is committed to helping her students learn.

what a great lady. sandy is my advisor as well, and she has kept me on track like no other. she facilitates class discussion very well, and i always felt comfortable speaking in class. she wants everyone in her class to know eachother, and i have many friends from past classes. she's also ricidulously smart and knows a lot about her subject.
