Great prof, 2nd time taking him, he loves teaching this class. I went in with absolutely no knowledge of live tv production and ended the semester with an A. Online quizzes based off of textbook readings, both the midterm and the final were online, attendance is essential because so much is done in class. I learned a lot

Comment:

Easy A class, but also a lot of fun. I took Group Dynamics so we worked in groups all semester. I know people don't usually like group work but we kind of get "forced" to get to know each other so group projects are not awkward. He also does a lot of in class games and gives prizes. Tests and assignments are a freeze. Recommend without hesitation!

I think Dr. Burke is a nice guy, however, he has never taught this class before and it showed. He would sit behind a desk and read directly from the book, but give us no direction on what was important to know. I think if he taught this again he would need to use his own materials, and not take directly from a previous professor. Exams were hard

I had him for 2 different classes. All he does is read from the text and show youtube videos of other people teaching the material. I dread coming to class and it feels like a huge waste of time. Tests were very difficult and gave nearly NO time to do well. Not to mention he never taught anything. Would never take him again.

Dr. Burke really cares about his students and his work. He works with students to achieve the grade they desire and does not have that cocky mentality that many professors adopt. He admits to his mistakes and always strives to be better. The homework load is not challenging at all and the tests are easy enough if you study. Nice caring guy overall.

I've had Dr. Burke for two classes at OU. He's a great hands-on instructor, and he cares about his students. He's approachable and is willing to work with you if you need extra help. Great professor! I would recommend him to anyone who's interested in media production.

Dr. Burke is my favorite prof so far at OU. He's very fair with grading and keeps things interesting and at times fun. If you do the journals and grouo projects, you'll pass! I would take him again in a heartbeat

Dr. Burke was one of the best professors one could ask for. Everything was always explained and understandable, there were 4 group projects which were very manageable. If he would teach any other classes I would totally take him again!

I knew of Scott before this class. He was the head of Oakland's Video Productions department for years, before becoming a professor. His classes have a relaxed atmosphere. He talks about what is on his agenda and then we go home. Plan out your group projects and use your notes on the online quizzes, easy A.

Amazing Professor! by far the best prof I have had at Oakland University. He is a fair grader. He encourages a lot of class participation. Taking Com201 with Dr. Burke is the reason I decided to switch to a communication major.

I had used editing software before I took this class. So, I was familiar with the basic practices of editing even though I had never used Adobe Premiere. The experience may be different for someone who hasn't had experience. I thought the class was simple and to the point. There are 10 open book quizzes, 3 editing projects, and a final practical.

I learned quite a bit in his class though it was challenging because I had no prior knowledge pertaining to video editing like most of the other students. Since a lot of the students already knew most of the stuff we were learning I felt like he rushed through some topics assuming that we all knew it. Overall he is a good teacher.

Attend class, read the book and participate in discussion. He is an easy grader on projects as long as all requirements (number of pages sources) are filled and content is on topic. He will never shoot anyone's idea down. He makes it clear everyone needs to be respectful, but enjoys to hear different perspectives on any given topic.

This class was run like a seminar so participation was crucial. Scott is very open to discussions and makes a comfortable environment to share your perspective. You need the books for assignments and lectures. There are 3 assignments- two are presentations and a lit review. If you put time into them you will get a good grade. Loved this class.
