Amazing professor. His tests are crazy hard and it isn't easy, but it's totally worth it -- he really cares, and I loved his class.

Best professor I've ever had. Hilarious, awesome, and an all around great guy. My favorite professor of all time - everyone should take classes from him.

Comment:
Professor is horrific. He has only a basic understanding of the material he is teaching, relying upon the inexperience of the students to pass off what he knows as fact. Grading is haphazard at best. The professor's ideology interferes with his teaching and presentation of material. He is egocentric and vain in the worst academic sense. AVOID!

Assigns tons of readings and does not goes over in class about what one should know about each. Expects you to finish over 100 pages per week on articles and comprehend to it. On top of that, 2pg papers due every week - such a hassle that it doesnt even cover a midterm grade. Does not curve. Lectures are not helpful-rambles. Highly not recommended

This whole class is pulled out of peop's asses. Essays 5 minutes late are docked, even if emailed to prove timely complet'n. Gartner sometimes lectures well but he often talks about personal, unrelated crap. TA's improvise b/c too busy w/ grad school. Do the craploads of reading but that won't guarantee you'll pick up on the minutia they test for.

In POL 132 you'll learn a lot about the Gulf War moreso than the policy end of things. Gartner's lectures fluctuate between insightful to time-drains, but at least the texts are interesting. His TA Shauna/ Jenna whats-her-face (she's the only girl TA in the class) is vapid, horrifically incomprehensible, completely useless and irrelevant. Avoid.

Not the easiest Pol prof however, if you are interested in the material you will do well. DO THE READINGS!!! And there is a lot of reading however, the lectures will give you clues to what the Prof thinks are the most important parts of each book. No "term" paper just short easy 1 pagers. I will take Gartner again.

I've taken three classes with him (POL 132, 130, and 121), and he is by far my FAVORITE professor. He's a great lecturer, and even though there's a lot of reading, you can easily figure out what's important through his lecture hints. AND when you leave the class and actually retain knowledge!

Not an easy professor by any means. He expects you to do all the readings and to be able to recall it during exams. He takes forever to explain things, but he does it in a fun and clear way. All that aside, he is probably one of the best polisci professors. He is extremly helpful and genuinely cares about his student's success. Take his class!!!

Knows what he is talking about, lectures are pretty interesting, and he often has some amusing stuff to say. There is a lot of reading in the sense that you actually have to read the books to do well on the exams. Midterm has a lot of details that need to be memorized. Overall, good professor, he often gives advice for life too.

A lot of readings for the class (150pgs/week) that must be done. The information was presented clearly and he was very good about keeping with the syllabus and making sure the class was "fair" (even though he ran away from me when I asked a question). Even though the tests are only on material in class they are still very hard and detail oriented.

A lot of material is presented in class. At least 150 pages a week, which combined with other classes is a lot to do. If you are going to take his class you should stay up on the reading because it gets very hard very quick to catch up. He is very clear but his grading is too hard and too focused on tiny details All in all a good teacher, just hard

Class is good. readings are interesting. lectures are very interesting, but as a result, they don't contain alot of information (bad in my opinion, but some people like it). tries to get students involved in research, and truly seems to care about his students. and he knows Organski, which is cool.

He is so interesting and a WONDERFUL teacher. His class involves a lot of reading, but its usually interesting stuff, so its't not so bad. He is great though, I recommend him if you want to learn a lot and want a little challenge.
