Difficult class as it is, he didn't teach and was not clear at all. Learned everything from the book and put a lot of time in. He retired so really didn't care about what we learned or our grades. His energy scarcity view was crazy!

He gives you a large file of his own notes that you can print off and just follows it to the T for his notes on the board (so, go to class and fill in the blanks). Then, homeworks and exams make you open the textbook which doesn't go along with his notes at all. Terrible. I will not forget this prof, but for all the wrong reasons. And he's nuts.

I still have nighmares about Korpela's fluids class 20 years later. Got an A but never had to work so hard for any professor. He hated me because he knew I was going to get an MBA

I've had three classes with Korpela and he is a good guy. Don't expect a handout, if you but the effort in you will do well. My best ME grades were from Prof. Korpela. His perspectives on world oil scarcity are extremely interesting and a true enginer will listen and find it interesting.

Worst teacher Ive ever had. Didnt learn anything in class, he just writes really fast and talks at the board. Midterm easy. Final impossible. Huge project. Randomly collects hw. Obsession with talking about depleting natural resources hurts his ability to teach.

First day of class he just started writing on the board. No explanation as to what would be in the class--and that's how helpful he was the entire class. You MUST teach yourself from the book--can't follow anything he does. Doesn't care enough about teaching to grade well, so one can get a decent grade fairly easily.

the first lecture over oil depletion is really interesting and he raises many valid points about oil in general - as for the class...hes old school back to the class scribbling on the board type... make use of dr. morans book to get you thru the class

some profs care about teaching, others don't...he's def the latter...u will not learn anything from him but u'll get enough work to learn the basics...u must work hard and teach urself everything...on the plus side he didn't make the tests too bad, probably b/c he took all of 5 mins to make them up...doesn't let u keep test question papers ???

cares more about oil depletion than teaching. also, told our entire class that our generation was stupid and that the reason for it was because we listen to ipods. finally, he changed the syllabus during the last week of class and decided to schedule a final. I would never ever take his class again, and have scheduled around him twice since then

Terrible teacher! Bashed Americans and made various comments regarding student ethnicities. Unclear focus and seemingly random lecture topics. Unable/unwilling to help students outside of class. Makes an easy class difficult, and makes a difficult class impossible.

Did a good job teaching heat transfer material. Yeah, talks about an oil crisis a lot, but one is coming soon. We need to be the engineers to do something about it and he is just helping prepare those of us who are willing to do so.

I know most people don't like him, but I found his thermodynamics class enjoyable and I found him always willing to help me understand a problem when I went to his office hours. He does tend to let his personal opinions take over lectures, but good otherw

Favored method of teaching is to go over examples outlined in the book, and then get them wrong.

One of the most boring, horrible professors I've ever had. Not very understanding, and not willing to help a student bring their grades up after a bad exam. His lectures were boring, office help worthless. And I had him twice!
