Comment:
Had Pilyugin for MAA4102 and 4103. The class is very difficult, hard to understand material, but he lays it out in the best way possible and makes the course passable. He tweaks his grading scale, and both midterms are take-home. Get ready to work - if you dont do the HWs and put in at least some kind of effort, you wont do well. Super cool guy.

Decent professor. He's fun and personable, and his explanations are clear. However, his lectures are a bit directionless, making it hard to fit what he's doing at any given time into the overall big picture. He also doesn't seem to realize how difficult his tests were. I ended up having to drop the class because I didn't have time to finish tests.

Really nice, helpful professor. There were a couple of times it was difficult for him to answer questions, but he didn't give up until he was sure everyone was clear. Tests are pretty easy, mandatory homework can be tricky so DON'T leave it til the last minute. Review questions were always similar to the exams (usually 4 questions).

An excellent professor, frequently available to help, and would always try and ensure that the entire class understood what was going on before moving to the next topic. He'd occasionally start the class with a puzzle to get our minds started, which I thought was a great idea. I'd HIGHLY recommend Professor Pilyugin.

He made the class fun to go to. He sometimes started the class with a math puzzle, which gave us a nice break from the material. He was fair on his tests and always gave an extra credit take home problem at the end of each.

Explains basic concepts logically and concisely, provides adequate examples, and facilitates interest in the subject. May seem a little stern at first but is actually quite helpful, though perhaps rather literal. Definitely knows his subject and is ready to explain it to those interested.

Great professor. Easily my favorite one this semester. His tests usually cover the easier types of questions from the material, and he is generous with partial credit. Just for fun, he begins a lot of his lectures with a brain teaser. I would definitely take more of his classes.

Tests are kinda hard and he teaches it lecturing like a social science class not a math class. However, on tests he gives a 10 point bonus question to be due whenever. Kinda interesting sometimes but kinda boring other times.
