Comment:
Chem1 covers a lot of content, and Kryatov does a good job of getting through all the material in lecture. He also teaches very closely to the textbook, which is nice. However, his explanations in lecture don't go into depth about how/why things work, so I found that I had to read the textbook a lot to fully understand things.

Tough class, but if you're prepared to work you'll do well. Lots of resources: problem sets, recitation problems, he releases 3 past exams before every exam. Lecture can be dry but he knows what he's talking about. Often reads directly from slides but goes more in depth; slides are posted ahead of time so you can take notes before lecture.

Dr. Kryatov is a fantastic professor, but he is not perfect. He is difficult to approach, not due to lack of office hours, because he deals with bad questions badly. He moves quickly and sometimes gives unsatisfying responses. He goes above and beyond for his students; he posts answer keys to tests within 15 minutes of the tests conclusion.

I have never cried so much from one class. Kryatov covers the very basic material in class and explains it poorly. The material in the homework is completely different and the tests seem like theyre from another course. Expect to spend 6+ focused hours per day on chem work.

Comment:
One of the most difficult classes I've ever taken. Kryatov explains the material, but many hours of practice are required to have a chance at doing well on exams. Regardless, exams are brutal and although Kryatov is a decent lecturer, he can be downright mean. Definitely a premed weed out class. Beware.

I went to Professor Kryatov several times outside of class, and there he was helpful. But, during lecture, he reads straight from his slides. Tests are challenging. But, the reason why I gave him such a row rating is becasue he was incredibly mean to a few students in my lecture and refused to answer questions he deemed "pointless."

Kryatov is one of my favorite professors at Tufts. Yes, he's hard. His class may be a weed out, but you learn so much. Those that are dismissing him on this forum are probably pre-medical students that struggled in the course who probably shouldn't even be doctors.

A combination of him and the class the lectures have a lot of material. Exams are very challenging but he does post previous exams and practice exams.

Prof Kryatov is a difficult professor who values hard work. intro chemistry is very hard. he is a fair grader, but if you don't put in the time you will not do well in his course. comes off as intimidating but he's a fine guy

Kryatov isn't very approachable Chem1 covers a ridiculous amount of material for an introductory class. His tests are fair, though, and all of his lecture powerpoints are uploaded to Trunk, so missing lecture isn't a big deal.

I stopped showing up to class after the first midterm, since all he does in class is just read the lecture slide available online. You know the professor is not very great when my friend hasn't showed up to class once this semester, but still got a good grade. The kid didn't even know what the professor looked like on the day of finals.

Tough and boring material that is presented with great clarity and organization. Only take this class if you are willing to work hard. The resources to study are readily available, but you will need to be willing to put in lots of hours to do well. Also, labs are rough.

I think the curriculum is what's difficult. Since there is so much packed in there he will often say that he "can't digest the material for you" which is very true. I had to spend lots of time outside of class reviewing. When he has open Q&A sessions before exams it shows how brilliant he is, even if he misunderstands your questions sometimes.

His class was so difficult! I went to tutoring, study group, and I pay attention in class but it makes no sense to me. The class takes up 90% of my workload and it is miserable! I find it extremely difficult, I really think you have to have taken AP Chem in high school to be able to succeed because you need a strong foundation to do well.

Best professor at Tufts -- teaches with a level of detail and thoroughness seldom seen with other professors. Slides for every lecture, multiple practice exams, and curves every exam to an 80. Admittedly can be dry because he is a no BS guy. Those claiming the class is too hard realize they were wrong after taking the remaining pre med reqs.

Sergiy thrives off of crushing the dreams of premeds, even though one-on-one he's okay. Speeds through lectures and makes his exams KILLER. Like yea chem is hard but pleasE this is excessive. But the man is sassy and honestly if you don't have a life outside and sell your soul to the class you'll probably survive.

Chemistry 1 and 2 are both incredibly difficult classes but Kryatov does a pretty good job getting all the information to you. Lecture slides are always online and are usually very helpful. The tests are much more difficult than homework/lectures, and there is a lot of homework, both written and online. Lecture is pretty boring though.

Prepare to work hard, but also be prepared to learn a lot. This class is hard, but it gives a strong foundation of chemistry. Lots of work: lectures, labs, online and paper assignments. Tests are hard, but there will always be a perfect bell curve with the middle set perfectly on a 75. Would recommend. Accent, but easy to understand. Accessible.
