Dr. T was so professional and enthusiastic. I think those of us who plan to major/minor in Film Studies or English really appreciated her class. The boring part was having to listen to students around us from other faculties who thought taking this class was going to just be watching comic-action movies for credit. Great Prof! Annoying classmates!

This is my 2nd class with Tinic and I'm taking another next term w/her. She makes theory so clear by always connecting it to real world examples in the TV industry. Loved the TV analysis assignment and how it was brought into our class discussion! Everyone wanted to talk all the time cause she really knows how to have a conversation! A rare prof!

Professor Tinic was knowledgeable and approachable, made her class engaging and fun. There was only one assignment, a midterm, and a final, and she was clear on what would be on the exam. Professor Tinic is great, and I had a lot of fun in her class.

A great class. Tinic was the only prof I had that engaged the class in discussion & debate. I disagree with the previous poster. She made a lot of time to meet with students & even provided examples of top papers for review & success. Sounds like some people decided not to go meet with her. She's so kind I don't get why they didn't!

While Dr. Tinic was a really engaging lecturer and seems like a pleasant person, I couldn't figure out what she expected from our exams papers. Her grading criteria was really unclear to me and I didn't do poorly, but even after trying to improve based on her feedback, I couldn't seem to get a better mark. Really interesting class and prof though!

Wow, I usually hate group presentations and participation marks but Dr. Tinic made all of that fantastic. She's so good at getting students to know each other and totally encourages the classes' sense of humour dealing with complex topics. I'm an introvert & this helped me with skills I need. My favourite class! Great material and a great prof!

Wonderful prof. Tinic clearly enjoys her work and tries to make concepts as easy to understand as possible. While she does expect you to try and learn as much as you can about film, she marks very fairly. I will say you DEFINITELY must read the textbook, because some films mentioned on the textbook will be on exams.

A wonderful professor, she was knowledgable, funny, and created a very welcoming atmosphere. Two non-cumulative exams and a shot analysis made up the entirety of the class. She gave good feedback and as long as you read the text book and went to lectures the exam and assignments were very straightforward.

Dr. Tinic gave great lectures and made the course more interesting by keeping it contemporary. No assignments, just 3 non-cumulative exams. Attendance is mandatory though because she doesn't post notes online and her slides are pretty minimal. She really knows what she's talking about and greatly encourages class discussion.

Finally a prof that doesn't turn a film studies class into film history! It was a much more laid back course than I expected. 3 exams, not cumulative, but you must go to class and read the textbook! She really encourages class discussion and brings contemporary television into course material. Not the easiest course but 100% worth taking.

When I was contemplating taking Film Studies 100 this semester, I came here to learn more about the professors I could choose from. I'll be honest, many of the comments here seemed so far-fetched that I genuinely wondered if it was the same person writing good reviews over and over again. Fortunately, Serra really is that amazing. Take her classes.

Have been really enjoying this class. It's not easy! -- you need to do the readings and go to screenings. But totally fair! Class discussions are so great. Prof. Tinic is so enthusiastic and passes that on to the class. My favourite class so far!

Can't even believe that one of the posters below were referring to their classmates as "kids". Speaks volumes as to how they might not enjoy a class about TV culture. Dr. T. knows TV analysis and how the industry works. She's fantastic and respectful of students unlike the poster who insults their peers as "kids". Great class! Grow up, eh?

Has anyone else noticed the tags from the few complaining? They all admit "Amazing Lectures" Thats because all of Dr. Tinic's lectures are amazing! I think that some people think taking a course on TV is going to be an easy ride & then freak when they learn that they need to read cultural theories and apply it. Lazy them! Great class! Great prof!

Dr. T is indeed one of the best profs in the department. If you need hand holding to get your work done ... thats on you. As another poster said: do the work! She's so smart and always open to meetings, helping students. Terrific class and I've registered for another with her.

This was the best class I had all year. I'm a FS major. Have to say I'm tired of all the niche courses that make film similar to art history classes I took before. Serra knows how the TV Industry works & also the critical approaches to analyzing the programs. If you don't like TV then don't take these classes. If you do you'll learn a helluva lot!
