She is a great teacher and very knowledgeable. never bored in her class. However, be prepared because she is potentially the toughest group project and paper grader I have had at Allegheny so far. She gives good feedback if she marks something wrong, but I wish she would simply be more specific about what she wants on the prompt.

Amazing prof! U have to work hard. She is extremely honest abt her thoughts, so if you're not as confident as a student u might not care for her. She does sigh a lot but I think it's bc she's nervous too. I never knew how interesting China was, but she made it very accessible & thought provoking (esp in contrast w our system). GREAT in office hours

She sighs a lot in class, specifically when students are talking, and looks mad/annoyed. Like what is being said is ridiculous or very off track. Verbally shes fine, but the sighing is extremely discouraging and makes it so none really wants to talk.

She is a good professor but seems to rush students in their participation, in that she may often cut you off (usually in order to conserve class time). Her papers may be a little harshly graded, but she ensures that you understand the material by grading that way. She is very openminded in her concepts.

Comment:

Politics & Gov't in China. Dr. Wesoky has spent extended periods of time in China, and is well-versed in Chinese sociology. I was not interested in Chinese culture much before this class, but now I certainly intend to take another class with Wesoky and/or about China. We read 2 informative books (that were boring) and 2 novel-like (good!) books

Overall professor Wesoky is a very good Professor. She is also my comp adviser. At times it is difficult to know what she expects out of papers, but that is because she expects creative responses. She is open to many opinions and viewpoints and I enjoyed her class so much that I changed my senior comp topic as a result of her class.

She assigns interesting reading, keeps class lively. Downside: Half reads your essays - I get mine back with next to no comments. Class discussion are great when the class... discusses. Usually it's one or two overachievers chiming in with filler. She's so blunt and fiery... it's a miracle that she can the class alive.

I've had many classes with Prof. Wesoky and yes she is hard, but for the people claiming that the tests are hard and that they read too much, wait until you go to grad school. Perhaps you should understand that the PRC is massive, the problems are vast, and the literature endless.

Had several classes with her - I think she's great! Lots of fun, and she gives interesting assisgnments. I found that she always accepted my viewpoints in class and during assignments, and I am considerably more conservative than she is. GREAT to work with! I did my comp under her (she gave me an A)! She works you hard but it's totally worth it!

She is such a hard grader..tests are RIDICULOUSLY hard! But it was a good course..lectures can be a bit dry at times but she's very sarcastic and funny. Take it, you'll be a more wordly person afterwards even if you end up failing..which is um, very likely.

Great class! She brings in discussion topics and draws the whole class in. She's a great instructor. I loved the debates and the reading. She made boring material interesting.
