Test is 75% determined on three essays that are graded fairly. The GSIs that grade them are accessible outside of class to help. The other 25% is participation and attendance. Interesting class, she doesn't let you use electronics, but she is so passionate able the material that it is interesting,

(Rating for her History of Photography Class at Umich Ann Arbor) Shelley's lectures are fine. She's enthusiastic and knowledgable but she's really annoying during lectures. She doesn't believe in technology so now phones or computers or else she'll call you out in front of the whole class. No final, 4 minor quizes and a really easy/short paper.

Professor Perlove is the best professor I've had at UMICH - I've taken 2 of her classes and both were the most interesting classes I've ever taken. She is so passionate about art history and really just wants to strike that same interest in her students. Wish I had time to take another class with her!

Dr Perlove is an excellent professor. She is highly educated, experienced, & recognized in the Art History World. Shelley just gave a lecture at the DIA, Rembrandt and the Face of Jesus. She helped open the show at the Louvre, and coauthored the book Rembrandt and Faith. As a former student I can attest that she is an excellent educator!

I hated her! She never liked to hear students opinions and was dismissive of a lot of questions asked to her. I was also required to buy her book to write a paper about HER BOOK! I love how her students are her cash cow! My mom had her and even she said she should retire!

This teacher is always very excited when she lectures about art.If you like art then take her. I dont like art so she seemed just a little wierd. However, the class is pretty easy but I strongly recommend to never skip class or go to sleep. She gives 2 tests and their all basically on the lectures.

Very passionate professor. In fact, her passion can be very infectious, which I think is a good thing and which makes the class interesting. If you're a good student and you put in a fair amount of time to study and you give proper attention to the one essay you have to do, you should walk away with an A.

she's not necessarily a bad teacher, but she's REALLY enthusiastic. like, the first day of class i had to try not to laugh because of her voice. but other than that, attendance is mandatory. i would recommend her if you really like art!

Worst experience ever at UM-D. Needs to deflate her ego. She treats you like you are in preschool if you need help. Definitely favors students. I'm not lying when I say if she doesn't like you, you won't do good.. or if you do, you will go insane trying.

Don't take Perlove if you don't like to attend class. Exams are all from the notes. She is a bit intimidating at first, but she really knows her stuff. Sit in the front and try to participate, easy A.

You do not need textbook for class. Textbook is actually useless and they only offer a paragraph about each of the paintings. Everything is based on lecture. You have to attend class and take good notes. Borrowing notes from someone else doesn't cover it.

Where do I start?First, Attendance is mandatory and if you have excessive tardys they will count as an absent. Perlove is late almost every day and keeps us 5-10 minutes over the class time.Second, there are 4 exams and the class average was 70.1%, give me a break, this is an introductory class, not a Graduate class. Finally, she is very Obnoxious!

You can tell that she really loves what she teaches (as well as knowing it inside and out), and she passes on her joy for art history to many of her students. Very helpful if you ask for it! One reading summary, one quiz, mid term and final.

I was shocked the first day of class when she was SO enthusiastic and energetic even really early in the morning. She REALLY knows what she's talking about too. She can talk about teeny details in a painting and always covers everything in her tests, which you'll do fine on if you pay attention and take good notes- you don't even need the book
