Comment:

Very possible to get an A in this class - easier than they make it sound. You NEED to watch and pay attention to lectures and do homework problems (considering it counts for credit). You get to drop your worst quizzes and one test which is helpful. Extra credit points available. Still would recommend Study Edge for this course- helped a lot!

Comment:

Tornwall was a very fair Professor in my opinion. Attendance was optional as her lectures were pre-recorded online. Web Assign is used for HW and it is not the best software and can be picky but my TA did discussion quizzes based off of them. The textbook homework was helpful in my opinion but a little overboard on the amount of problems assigned.

Comment:

Took this professor for my MAC1147 class and honestly she was such a bad professor. The only good thing about her class is that she drops your lowest test score which can really help your grade, but her lectures are totally different from her homework and quizzes. I highly recommend getting study edge to pass this class. Would never take her class.

Comment:

taking this class was a BAD move. She wasn't even lecturing this semester but you can watch her hour long lectures online, theres quizzes every week in ur discussion class, tests are literally impossible, theres about 30 HW problems due after every lecture. Overall this class is ROUGH don't recommend

This class is unreasonably difficult and she did not even do the live lectures this semester. You must put in an insane amount of work if you want a good grade. There is a LOT of homework and the tests are very difficult. Do not take this class if you don't absolutely need to or aren't willing to put in a lot of time. Your only hope is a good TA.

Exams are directly related to the lectures, and Dr. Tornwall was very helpful during office hours. Lectures are available online, so you have a chance to review the material again. A lot of homework, but manageable if completed on time. Great preparation for Calc 1.

Comment:

Prof Tornwall is a very good professor, but you have got to do the homework and practice extra to succeed in this class. The exam questions are more application than they are regurgitation, so make sure you not only know but *understand* how to do the questions. What's nice is that she drops one exam. If I could do it, you can do it.

This class is supposed to be designed for students not getting a degree in math but that's not how it feels. Homework assignments are due almost every day of the week and it's difficult to keep up with if you have other hard classes in your schedule. I recommend taking 1140 instead. I've been told more than once that calc is easier to keep up with.

Comment:

Although precalc is not easy, I loved this professor! I ended up with an A, but only because I worked really hard. This class is tough, but Tornwall explains well and she was a huge help in office hours. She was always so excited to help and would explain things really clearly to understand. I am not a math person, but Tornwall is a great professor

This class seems easy at first, but once the exams roll around it becomes much more difficult. It is very easy to miss 4 or 5 questions on a test and end up with a C or D. That being said, make sure you use study edge and do as many practice problems as possible. Homework is very simple compared to the tests and doesn't really prepare you at all.

This was a two credit course designed for students without a mathematical background. However, you would not guess that in taking it. She makes constant mistakes in the lectures, only some of which she catches. The exams and homework are a completely different format to the lectures too, on webassign, compounding the difficulty of them & the class.

Whatever anyone says good about her do not believe them she is literally lucifer herself, if you have to take a makeup exam for her you're done for. Homework is pointless busy work, she messes up like 10 times every single lecture, and its simply a total waste of time.

Nothing crazy hard. Her lecture videos are super helpful and she will even try to give you extra tid bits on how to better understand different equations. one of the best math teachers I have ever had! definitely would recommend this class.

The way she teaches the class is the best ever. I love the outlines and the videos of her working the problems out. She is a great professor! My only issue is that the amount of work for the class is ridiculously large and it is plain stupid. I did more hw for this class than for chem, physics and econ which I also took. Would not recommend

I really enjoyed Professor Tornwall. She is by far one of the kindest professors i've had, and super organized which is very nice. She works out every problem and makes sure each problem is easy to understand. However there is a lot of work and homework involved, the class was very time consuming, and the exams were okay. I was able to make an A.

There is just way too much homework given, and discussion quizzes really depended on your TA. What made your grade, though, were the tests, which were very tricky sometimes. Getting one more wrong answer can drop your test grade. I would just watch her videos online because she almost never finishes her live lectures.

Tornwall is a fair teacher, but you need to work hard to do well. The course is very homework-heavy but doing all of it really helped me do well on exams. She offers her lectures both online and in-person. Her office hours can get busy but she tries to make time for all of her students.

Tornwall makes the exams way too hard. They're super tricky and can confuse you even if you know the content and what to do. Quizzes are supposed to help your grade but that depends on who your TA is since they write them. She gives bonus opportunities, but if youre not good at math try to invest in study edge please! Also go to math lab a lot.

Tornwall is a fair teacher who cares about her students. She offers her lectures online, so I did not go to class very often. However, the few times that I attended, she makes humorous jokes and keeps the class at a steady pace the entire time. The class isn't too bad if you study hard and keep up with the homework. Use the math tutoring lab!!

Not a fan at all, tests don't need to be as hard as they were and there was way too much homework. Asking her for help was basically pointless because her office hours were always so busy. If you don't have a good TA you'll struggle even more. Don't recommend this class at all unless you're good at math. I'm struggling to even get a B.
