This class was a joke. I went 4 times through the semester which were 3 times for tests and first day of class. He does provide some study guides. However, some of it will be on the exam but some won't. Open note, open book tests. He is not very nice and will often ridicule you for asking questions. He gets annoyed very easy

Only took this class because there were no other professors available. First exam I earned an A, failed the second one. Very uptight, literally picks on students and tries to take their phones away, tells them to stop talking before class has even started, seriously felt like I was in high school again. Likes to talk about being Indian. FUNSIES

This indeed is one of the worst professor I ever had. Accounting Majors AVOID him! He doesn't teach you anything.Tests are open book, but still hard to get good grades. Even if you do, you will find yourself barely learned anything out this class except to solve the problems using the book like me.The tutors will teach you more than he does!!!

This is one of the WORST professors I have ever had. Just like the previous rater, I received an A and B in my previous accounting classes, have never failed a class and am far from lazy. To top it off, he is the most rude and inefficient professor. I emailed numerous times, went to his office and he not courtesy to ever reply.

Comment:

Rude, annoying, rambles. It does no good to keep repeating that the tests will be hard if you are not going to actually teach the material! Gives lots of handouts expecting you to teach yourself. Really wish I would have taken someone else. I have taken the lower two accounting classes and received an A and B. Got a D in his class.

Only reason I passed this course was because he passes everyone. Exams are open note and open book, and hands out study material, but often the exam questions are not really based on study material. 2 midterms and 1 final. If you want to learn something and not be confused more than half of the time, do not take this professor. Terrible professor!

DO NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT take this class with Mahapatra! He is probably one of the worst professors on campus. Avoid him at all costs. Instead of teaching accounting, he rambles on about India and everything else, but accounting. His study guides are NOTHING like the actual exam and the grade is based on three exams worth 100 point each.

Doesn't teach anything! gives you old tests with answers and expects you to figure it out. only reason i didn't fail is because he doesn't fail anyone. i guess that's a good thing, but i'd prefer my tuition go towards someone who cares more about teaching than telling stories about how "great" his home country is

WOOW this guy did alot of story telling. sometimes jokes were pretty offensive towards women and certain races (im a dude btw). as for the class, i learned barely anything. only passed w/a C because he gave answers to the final.open book tests were the only thing good about the class. wasnt impossible to pass.

PROS: exams are open book and open notes, only learned 5 chapters the whole sem, no homeworks, no classwork, always got out of class really early, he doesnt check attendance, he gives study guide. CONS: he teaches but doesnt teach everything on the test, you have to read the book to learn, tests are tricky, he likes to tell the history of acctng.

I graduated from CSULB with a business degree 10 years ago. I remembered he wasn't good at teaching. If I would do it again, I wouldn't take his class. BTW, I now hold a MBA degree.

This guy is a saint! I wouldn't have passed accounting if it wasn't for him. He gives you tons of study guides (with solutions and formulas!) My recommendation is to put all the formulas that you've found on a separate sheet of paper so that you're not desperately looking for it during the exam! Also, the exams are tricky, so watch out!

Lol, this guys is funny. Ok his class in a nutshell: Class is based on 3 tests, all open book/open note. He gives you all these study guides and practice exams from the previous semester for you to study and you can use them for the test. 2nd midterm was WORD FOR WORD the same thing from the study guide. 1st and 3rd, were extremely hard.

He is actually a good professor, his study guide helped me a lot since I focused on that for the exams and it proved to be helpful. 3 Exams I did bad on the first one because I didnt study, worked a little for the second but focus on the study guide.

I took this class in a large section. Only covers 5 or so chapters, but the exams are very tricky. I was getting an A- prior to the final exam, and was extremely mad that I ended up with a C due to his review packet being NOTHING like the actual exam. So watch out, you might end up studying the wrong material and be screwed.

Avoid this instructor at all costs. He should definetely retire. Although he is a good guy, he is a horrible professor. He only has 3 tests of 1 or 2 chapters each but you don't learn anything. He gives practice exams but he tests you on something else. I would not take him at all costs!!!!!

Acct will always be a challenging subject but i think that Prof Mahapatra makes it possible to get by in this class. If you can figure out how to solve the practice test and understand how he figures them out you have a good chance of doing well on the test.

Contrary to what everyone says, I thought this class was pretty easy. He definitely does go off topic a lot. We got out of class usually at least an hour early. We only did 5 chapters in the whole semester. The final was only on one chapter! His practice exams do have some variation compared to the actual. That's why you should study the HW too.
