I had Dr. Dikener for private lessons while I was in high school for several years. He is very helpful and a genuinely kind person. He is the reason I am a music major today. I owe a lot to him. Wonderful cello professor! Extraordinary performer and teacher.

the class itself isn't as easy as everyone says on here, but if you're just looking to pass then take him. a lot of tests are take home and you have to attend 2 concerts. class is mandatory and he's very passionate about what he does. he's one of the nicest professors I've ever had although it was a VERY boring class, but worth it. I got an A.

Easy class but requires effort. you go to 2 concerts outside of class the tests are either take home or he gives you a study guide that is pretty much the test. also a ton of opportunity for extra credit. if you cant pass this class you may want to ask yourself what your doing at college.

This is probably the most boring class I've ever had in my entire life, but this professor is also one of the nicest professors I've ever had. Class is mandatory but if you have a problem you can go talk to him and he will work it out with you. Very happy and energetic at all times and very passionate about music. Had to go to a couple of concerts and had a few tests and that was all.

He is an amazing professor! He cares about his students and is willing to work with them. The class is incredibly easy. His lectures are simple power points, he gives study guides that are exactly like the test and offers 50 bonus points for perfect attendance. An excellent choice for a fine arts credit!

I don't recommend taking MUS 142, "Music in Society", with Dr. Dikener. It's not incredibly hard, but you don't learn anything. He's long winded, and hard to understand and very rude in emails or on the phone. Attendance is mandatory. You don't need to take notes on the lectures; he just gives you a test review sheet that's different anyway.

Fantastic Teacher. Very Easy and He really cares for his students. He gives you study guides for the tests. Btw, the test are super easy if you show up for class. The only negative I didn't like is to wake up and go to this class at 8:00AM. But other than that I loved this class and I don't really care for classical music.

One of my favorite teachers I've had so far at Marshall. He's very clear in the material that will be on tests, he's humorous, and he's very flexible with the schedule of things. Just show up and get an easy A. I'd take him again if I had to have more music classes.

Dr. Dikener is beyond fair. The man even ignores idiots yapping in the back. I had to miss an exam one day and really didn't have a solid excuse(job orientation), and he allowed me to make it up because he did the same for an athlete. Excellent man, knows his material, can drone on a bit, but always a class act.

I thought he was very easy. He usually tells what is on tests. He is an easy grader as long as you show him that you actually put some effort into the assignment. He also gives 50 extra credit points for attending all of the classes. Very good professor =D

It is an easy A if you come to class and do the work. His study guides are his tests and they are easy. You write two 2 pages papers on mandatory concert reviews which isn't bad. At the end of the day though it is still a music class and still boring. I say that at least now I have a more appreciation to music and that is all he can ask for.

I absolutely hated this class. He is boring, he expects his students to have some base knowledge of music (which I don't, well not music history). He is a great musician, but not a teacher. I liked when I had him, but now I don't want to think about it. If you miss class, you better get it excused. This class is boring, don't take it.

He just agreed to give us a take-home final. That should tell you enough. Easiest class I have. The lectures can be boring, but sometimes he's actually really funny if you pay attention. And he's a very talented musician. Decent class. His study guides are his tests. Can't really beat that.
