I have never been more discouraged in taking another writing class because of him. While he could have been a good professor, if he did not like your genre, he would put down what ever you were writing. He had a way of making you feel stupid simply because he did not like to subject of your story.

A great professor. He will work with you and gives you good feedback on papers. Don't show up unprepared or miss class without an excuse because he will take points off your grade. Funny and keeps things interesting.

Squire is very outspoken and sometimes brash. He will be very honest about his opinions. He's kind of hard to figure out at first, just stick with it. And for the love of God, come to class prepared.

He is a proffesional writer, and very intelligent at what he does. There are multiple essays, and he grades pretty hard. This isn't a pass me by class, you have to work. If you are just looking to pass, take a different teacher.

He was very helpful inside and outside the classroom with essays. There were more papers and reading then I would have liked. If you were late to class he made you pay and dollar each time and if you didn't you were marked as absent and got 40 points deducted from your overall grade. Overall I wouldn't recommend him as a teacher.

FANTASTIC teacher!! He really cares about his students and makes sure you learn the material. Very helpful both in and out of class, too. You have to actually attend class, and you have to read the stuff because there are quizzes more often than not. But I highly recommend him and can't wait to take another class with him next semester.

In every class he states his libral opinion on the war in Iraq, and how much he thinks, "Pres. Bush isn't worth a flip"(Squire Babcock). He is a great person, but I wouldn't want to take another one of his classes.

Had to take this jackass twice for the degree. He's been writing long enough to know a few helpful things, but as a teacher he's less than adequate--arrogant, hypocritical, cruel, spiteful, vain, misogynistic and underaccomplished. He lacks the basic human-realtion skills to be an effective teacher. The only useful feedback I got from his workshops were from other members, and the only people I know who liked his workshops were complete brown-nosing tools who parroted his trash.

BABCOCK is a great teacher. I made an A, easily. You just have to open yourself up to honesty & writers can have probs with that...but he knows what he's talking about. He was always encouraging, even to new writers...

Well, never had him for a class, but he's a great residential college head. Always helpful when we need it, at least in the dorm. Can't rate him for any of his classes, though.

This class almost made me hate writing, because the teacher is just way too biased against certain styles, and can be very unprofessional. What the crap!? Zero helpfulness. Only take it if you're REALLY serious about writing, and be prepared to get ticked off.

What a crapathon. I got so sick of listening to Squire's bullcrap that I almost became suicidal. He thinks the only good fantasy is Tolkien, and has absolutely no respect for any other writer in the horror or sci-fi genres. If your an advanced writer, be prepared to listen to what the students have to say. Squire will just confuse you.
