I took two courses with Dr. Beswick, Modern Africa (HIST 372) and Nonwestern Civ. They were good courses because she had really interesting information about places most people dont know. She is a pretty easy grader, but you have to come all the time and also do a bunch of things she asks, like asking questions and giving your opinion about things

She is very disorganized, gets off on tangents with individual students and ignores the rest of the class, and treats all the undergrads like they do not know anything. Her classes pretty much only focus on the transatlantic slave trade with Africa, so the course title "comparative slavery" was pretty misleading.

Enjoyed her as a teacher and although she is extremely disorganized and hard to follow the take home essays, although 3-5 pages in length aren't hard at all. There are 8-10 of them and they are the only grade sans attendance and slight group conversations.

A few words of advice. Go to lecture, read the book, and an A is a given. Got it with minimal effort. Fell asleep during lectures, still got an A no problem. Horrible professor. Knows nothing. TA does EVERYTHING. He should be the professor he is awesome. She blows.

I do not recommend this professor. You lose points for not going to class! She doesn't know the syllabus, she knows nothing, and she gives you useless notes that you don't use on the papers and essays assigned. If you read the textbook and do her homework, it's relatively easy. Her assistant does all the work. She can't even do a PowerPoint.

I was really interested in this class before I took it. I learned nothing. She ruined the whole experience for me. She assigns at least 10 essays that manage to be due relatively close to each other. All this wouldn't be so bad if she knew her own syllabus. For this class she literally did not know about anything other than Africa.

Completely incoherent. Easy grader, so there's that, but I learned nothing at all from her class. Makes no sense, jumps around too much, contradicts herself all the time.

This course is a lot of work that being said it is an easy A 70 percent of the class is basically papers that you can turn in late for an automatic 30% deduction and rewrite with no deductions an unlimited amount of times.doesnt use email.she is very un organized but nice. all quizzes are curved i would deffinatly recomend her easy if you work hard

I would not recommend this professor. Lacked knowledge in most areas except Africa. Stubborn, disorganized, and made her graduate assistant do over three-fourths of the work involved with teaching. She is not friendly toward students and lacked preparation expected of a college professor. Hist/Soc. Studies ed. majors: Avoid completely.

She is fair to her students and she is willing to go the extra mile to be sure that you understand the lecture. She will repeat something when asked. She is easy toi understand. When you are disabled she is willing to be very fair to you. So regardless of who the student is she is more than fair to all.

She's crazy. He lectures make sense when you listen to them, but your notes will not make sense. She from Sudan and is English so she reminds me of Jane Goodall.

Class consisted of debates (oral and written portion), quizzes, and movie reactions. I felt as though the professor was not very knowledgeable and instead deflected many questions to the students to see if anyone knew the answer. Came across as a bit standoffish, but overall not a hard class.

This woman is crazy. Crazy in a awesomely cool way. One of the most oddest professors I've had. // Textbooks are used little. I got a B without ever looking at them. Read the novels she has for the class. They are very informative and eye opening. The test questions are sometimes too vauge.

Not the most organized woman in the world. A little eccentric and perhaps a bit intimidating, but she's very very informed and doesn't make you out to be an idiot if you don't know what you're doing. Not always the clearest at answering questions. All in all, pretty good.
