Spare yourself the agony and don't take Hodin. The work was ridiculous for a two-credit class, lecture is boring, he is super unhelpful with his feedback. He doesn't help you develop your ideas but tells you what he wants you to write about instead. I feel my writing skills got worse this semester.

Professor Hodin has a passion for American literature that translates to interesting classroom discussions. He is a very tough but fair grader, meeting each student where he or she is at. Hodin is very open to discussions with students about topics, and works willingly with them outside of class. Take advantage of his knowledge and advice.

Hodin is a very sweet guy. He cares about his students and he's very liberal with extensions and sick-days if you email him in advance. He does assign a lot of reading but I got by without doing too much of it. His essays are rather vague so this is a good class to take if you are already a decent writer. Follow his advice if you want a good grade!

Professor Hodin is a nice guy, but his class was at 8am and he struggled to get kids to participate and even show up. Be prepared to receive emails late at night and to print a lot of short stories. Most of the reading is really unnecessary as long as you understand the overall concept.

Professor Hodin is such a sweet man, but his class can be pretty boring. He encourages discussion, but it usually turns into him talking for most of the class. I did feel like my writing improved, but I strongly recommend going to office hours- he's super helpful and you'll do better by talking to him and clarifying his expectations. Good class.

Mr. Hodin is a nice guy and you can tell he is passionate about what he does. He is a bit of a tough grader and rarely gives A's. But I think the biggest problem with his class is that he doesn't really help you develop your own ideas for your papers as much as he tries to get you to write about what he wants you to write about.

Great teacher. He's funny and very nice. Go to his office hours to discuss paper topics beforehand. He helps a lot. The class is pretty easy if you read all the material and write well. Put effort into the rough drafts even though they are not graded becuz he will give you good feedback which won't help you if your draft was just thrown together.

The class wasn't hard, but it wasn't fun. He mostly talks at you all class and takes a long time to return papers. My papers weren't that good yet received good grades. I don't feel like I improved at all.

He's a really nice guy but his style of teaching isn't ideal. Tries to open class up to discussion but most of the time he lectures the whole time. Takes forever to give back drafts and grade papers. A bit of a tough grader but likes improvement between papers a lot. Also you can get through the class without reading the books

A nice guy but very disorganized and very unhelpful with essay prompts. He simply gives you a piece of paper that pretends to be focused but really leaves you wondering around trying to find a prompt that you think will be good enough. The discussions are pointless, and boring, and he is a tough grader!

Hodin is a good guy. The thing is, (1) he gives back your drafts very late, (2) he talks too much, (3) tough grader. You'll do fine in the class if you follow the exact format he teaches you and obv if you're a good writer - don't take it if writing isn't one of your strong suits.

Prof. Hodin is a very intellectual individual, and knows his stuff. However, he is VERY disorganized in how he runs his course time, and highly inefficient. He hands papers back EXTREMELY late, and many didn't know where they stood in the course. I got a strong grade, but you kind of need to be a good writer prior to his course. You will learn.

This class is ridiculous. He doesn't stop talking in class, covers your drafts in pretentious and unhelpful comments, and gives you little to no time to edit drafts. This guy knows writing, he just can't teach it at all (We spent half a class talking about appropriate comma use, come on man, we went to middle and high school). Don't take his class!

Hodin is a nice enough guy; however, his class consists mainly of him talking about what HE thinks and discussion amongst the students is almost nonexistent. His paper assignments lack direction, he grades based on how much he agrees with you and often gets drafts back less than 24 hrs before the final copy is due Definitely would NOT recommend!!!!

not an easy A. papers have NO direction at all...litterally just says "write about what you want", which ends up making it harder. must read books to be able to write about them (obvs). overall he's pretty funny, but his class is unorganized and he's a tough grader. highest grade in my class so far has been one kid who got an A- on a paper.

Although Hodin is a really nice guy, he's pretty boring in lecture. The focus of the lecture is all about the readings where he wants the class to participate, but many times we would sit in a circle in silence while no one would answer making him interject. He is helpful in office hours but he really is boring in lecture.. I wouldn't suggest him.

Taking this class actually saved my interest in writing after taking WR100. Professor Hodin assigns a lot of reading, but it is manageable as long as you take the time to read it. If you engage in class discussions, or at least are prepared you'll do fine. He does, however, take forever to hand things back, especially grades.

Prof. Hodin is a pretty tough grader. He gives too much reading and we often don't discuss them as much as we should. Take advantage of his office hours. If you go over your ideas with him before writing an essay, he can give you good pointers.

He's definitely a nice guy, but his classes seem unorganized and pointless. We don't go into depth in our readings, his essay assignments aren't very clear and it's tough to get a good grade no matter how much effort you put into the paper.

He's nice in class but while grading he's completely ridiculous. If he doesn't agree with you, you can expect a bad grade. If your analysis doesn't make initial sense to him he simply won't give it another thought. If you want a million pretentious, obnoxious remarks all over every paper then this is the class for you!
