Comment:
THEA213 is a very fun class if you are at all interested in theatrical lighting. You get to work on the electrics crew for the mainstage productions and gain valuable hands-on experience. However, the exams are difficult but the content comes right off of the notes that he posts on Blackboard. Lectures are average and the two projects are simple.

Professor Holliday (known as Steve) is a really nice professor. THEA319 is a very easy class if you simply follow his instructions and reference the textbook for examples. His lectures tend to be a tad boring and go down various sideroads, but he brings them back with his numerous stories of working at the Studio Theatre. Highly recommend.

Can't be more pissed. Most FRUSTRATING prof ever. Tells you no detail requirement before you start your project that's worth 15% of your grade and, after everybody in the class put in huge amount of effort, gives you Cs and paragraphs of criticism about requirements that you fail to fulfill, which he never told you, on your feedback.

Do not take this class if you are simply looking for GER 6 credit. The class requires a mandatory 40 hours of work on the Main Stage Productions. It often felt like the class was just exploiting us for free labor. Sometimes they had me mopping floors. You learn a lot of very specific knowledge, but if you're just looking for a GER 6, keep looking.

A wonderful professor. His lectures may not make a lot of sense until you do the work hours (not his fault), but he is very helpful.

Had him in 2011-2012. An apprenticeship with a professional lighting designer is worth more than this class. Lectures are dry and confusing. Homework, projects and tests were convoluted and difficult, if not graded unfairly to boot. Everything I learned in the class was learned from the practical sessions where we did lighting work.

Loved intro lighting with Steve (Fall 2011). Great guy, tests aren't hard. Most of class is spent in mandatory extra hours setting up for performances, but that's where you learn hands-on. It's a great time, Steve's lectures are interesting and punctuated with entertaining anecdotes. Highly recommended.

Steve is a great professor if you take the time to get to know him and show a genuine interest in the subject. He doesn't have much patience for people who think that his class is just a filler. I always enjoy having conversations with him but he does like to ramble just a bit. Majors really seem to like his classes.

Steve is one of the worst professors in the theatre department. He doesn't listen when you come to him with questions but jumps to conclusions. Expects you to learn things that he doesn't teach. Does not grade fairly. Overall very disapointing. He needs to work on his communication skills.

Steve is a tough guy to figure out. His stories are frequent and often interesting, but his method of teaching involves giving you an assignment, not helping as you bomb it, grading it and then telling you in class WHY you bombed it, and then expecting you to do it perfectly forever. Grading is also very hard to figure out. No regrets, though.

It's not so much the professor. Theater 200 is the stupidest, most worthless class offered at this school. This from a girl who has taken womens studies and art of. Don't waste your time, its a lot of crapwork and you'll get dumber just by showing up.

Ah, Steve. Good classes, but he does tend to go off into random stories. Some relate to the class topic of the day, other times they're just fun. He knows his stuff when it comes to color theory and such.

I appreciate the fact that Holliday offers a photo class at all, so I can't fault him for having to spend 3/4 of the class on camera basics or for not having a darkroom component. Still, getting to shoot a play rehearsal with slide film is the only remotely intriguing part of the class.

The most condscending and self-important prof I had. Doesn't know how to listen. Grades minutiae that he doesn't ask for on exams. And females who couldn't tell a cable from a crescent wrench get A's when skilled electricians get B's.

Extremely vague, boring lecturer. Had me wishing that I had dropped the course. Could be made more interesting if he had done some in-class activities, but all he did was lecture when he had promised not to. Easy grader, though, not hard to get an A or a B on a paper.
