Easy lectures to follow, and very nice and doesn't grade too hard. Has a tendency to lean towards the left in his views, but I imagine that it would be difficult for any history teacher to remain completely unbiased when considering the politics of their teaching. Regardless, I would definitely recommend him. Easy class. Fun and caring professor.

Ive taken Steven Conn's classes twice & both times I loved it. One was 40 people, the other 5. Hes not a stickler for attendance in his larger classes. some find his slight liberal bias annoying, I love it. He's funny & energetic & cares about your opinions. While "tough" for GE kids, it should be a breeze for any history major worth their salt

Had no interest prior to this course but it was really interesting. Class is set up with lectures on tuesdays and discussions on readings on thursday--great way to do it! Exams were difficult and he graded difficult on the papers but it wasn't unreasonable. No book just PDFs to read every week. Really interesting class without too much work.

I loved him as a professor! Great guy if you put in the time and effort and go to office hours and class and actually study. I am taking another class of his in the fall. Only professor thus far I have liked and connected with.

Dr. Conn is a great professor. That being said, don't expect this class to be an easy A.If you attend all of the lectures & recitations, and read the book, you will understand the material. Do your best on the newspaper essays because they are graded VERY stringently. Be diligent if you want an A, it is possible to achieve.

Prof. Conn is a great guy but his TAs are horrible. They expect a lot for a simple History based writing class. Sorry guys :(

The class is interesting but he is always trying to force his liberal views on you. He will speak about a democratic issue like it is the best thing to ever happen but then talks down on every republican president or viewpoint. Extremely biased history class, but what can you really expect.

Dr. Conn is knowledgeable, animated, and an interesting lecturer. He gives room for participation and really listens to his students' questions. He definitely encourages the class to think, and the lectures are engaging. Exams are very fair and easy if you're engaged in class and if you read the book. I loved the class (FYI, HIST 152 = 2002)

Very wise man who knows his history like no other. Very engaging and passionate in his topics. Due to the low amount of assignments, it is critical to do well on the midterms and final. But you learn stuff in there that you would never know without taking it. If you aren't a history buff, you're looking at getting a B in this class most likely.

If you want to be moved by a Professor then you have found the man right here. He inspired a class full of young kids to think critically about our world and to not sit passively while decisions are being made by other people on our behalf.

He does nothing but spit his liberal view upon everyone. Also, he picks unless things to test you over. This is a general history class from Reconstruction to Present and he chose to go over little details more than overall concepts. I swear we spent more time going over a device that measures rainfall, than we did going over the whole Vietnam War.

Conn definetly knows his stuff. He's really smart and makes his lectures interesting. Can be a bit intimidating, but I learned a lot. Exams are all short answer/essay. Grade depends on your t.a. Lawerence sucks. He said " I didn't have grades at my college, so I could care less about yours. He'd spend half the class talking about movies.

Professor Conn is the sort of guy who'll make allusions to Claude Levi-Strauss in casual conversation. If that sort of thing intimidates you, watch out. Otherwise, definitely take a class of his - he's engaging, brilliant, and kind.

He might be okay for an upper level teacher - but for history 152 it was hell. Conn is very pretentious. I thought he seemed interesting at first but he totally disappointed me. His tests are completely based on his lectures - not the reading. And his lectures sometimes contradict with the reading. I also had the worst TA - beware of Mark Mulchahey
