Crum is a very nice, disorganized man. Our due dates were constantly changing because he honestly expected a little too much for what this class is. Four books to read, two papers, weekly assignments, a mt and a final. Not hard, but constant work. This was his first time teaching nas1, so I'm sure he would be more organized in the future.

Another wonderful summer session with Dr. Crum. Lectures where a bit long but Crum provided cool stories to tell that made the time go by faster. Exams were ok, a few trick questions here and there but overall nothing to stress over. Paper and newspaper project were a breeze.

Prof. Crum is very knowledgeable, but his class is very disorganized. It is unclear what the midterm and final would be on, and you had to study everything including lecture and books. 2 essays that were based on the books, but he never talked about the books in class. However, he is very helpful in office hours and rewards those who put in effort

Crum was awesome. I took him over the summer for NAS 001 and had a blast. Yeah, his class is work and not an easy A but well worth the time spent learning the material of basic NAS.

Crum teaches NAS 1 as a history course. That's fine except the texts are subjective and don't tie in with the historical facts presented in class. Writes dates all over the board but they don't matter in exams. Does not take questions. Quite full of himself. T.A.s quality varies!! Exams with trick Q.s No critical thinking required! Bad class.

Very boring, very unscientific, very petty professor. All grading done by T.A.s. Some T.A.s grade easy, others hard. Had to rewrite a paper three times because of rules like "no passive voice allowed". Prof spends one hour on the format of the first page. I learned practically nothing in this class. Take with someone else! No real exchange of ideas.

Comment:
Professor Crum has taken the otherwise fascinating subject of Native American Studies and turned it into blather. He requires that we sift the most arcane and irrelevant material from the readings to regurgitate in the form of a paper which is then graded on a subjective basis. He did not involve the students in the material. NOT a good professor.

Did Crum pay these people to write good reviews? This class was boring and the notes were all over the place. That makes having organized notes hard The reading is dense and grading isn't uniform for the whole class. If you have a tough TA like I did, you better work your butt off, which is unfair because other TAs hand out good grades like candy.

Not a bad professor. Must attend every class because everything from notes is on tests. Not the easiest class, if your looking for an easy A look for another class, easy B but have to work hard for A. I think in the end they teacher does curve the class but doesn't say if he does or not. Also depends on your TA because they'll do all grading.

He is really nice and funny. You need to go to class because most of the tests are about the lectures. Overall good teacher. Your experience in the class also depends on the TA, and if they grade hard or easy. Mine was pretty fair, but some make it really difficult, at least thats what I've been told.

I swear, Crum is the best professor I've ever had at UC Davis. He knows his subject pretty well. He's quite funny, too. Very charming man. Hah to me he's like the uncle everyone would want. =). Essays are fine, tests are okay. TAs are awesome, especially Amber Bill!! TAKE HIS CLASS.

Best teacher I've had in college. Class is very easy, and he is a good teacher. Cracks good jokes, let us have a final a week early so we didnt have to wait for a saturday final, and papers are the only thing that are somewhat hard, but TA's graded easy. TAKE HIM

I love Crum!! He's really funny and interesting! I had a good TA, so my paper grades were good, but I heard that the other TAs are also very good! This is not the easiest class in UCD, but you can get an easy A as long as you attend the lecture. You have to write fast in class though because he doesn't write much on the board.

Awesome teacher, great sense of humor and very caring. The class was fairly easy with two 5-page-essays, 1 midterm, and 1 final. Had a gd TA so that helped a lot too. Overall, I'd definitely recommend him.

If he is teaching NAS1 take the class. He is really fun, really nice, and usually ends the quarter the week before finals which is nice. Had a great TA so that helped. But you should be able to get an A if you do everything somewhat good (2 papers, midterm and final)

Professor Crum was awesome. He was nice and he has a sense of humor. The class was not difficult. You just have to do the reading and write those papers. Midterm and Final was not all that hard. You will do fine as long as you do the reading. The first paper was extremely easy because it was direct. Helps to have a good T.A.
