This guy does not know what he's doing. I can't even regard him as a professor. I don't understand why San Jacinto hired him. I believe that if you're smarter than the instructor, then you shouldn't be taking that instructors class, and trust me 95% of you are definitely smarter than this guy. Save yourselves the waste of time and avoid this class.

Dr. Pena conducts his class entirely through lectures followed by quizzes and tests over those lectures. If you can take good notes over the lectures and show up every day it won't be difficult to pass. In addition to that, Dr Pena's lectures are both interesting and entertaining, and there's often times class discussion over the material. Take it.

Be ready for a old school professor. He has no notes, no textbook, and no reviews for tests. He expects you to write everything he says while he sits and talks and he doesn't let you know what the test is and theres at least one pop quiz a week.

I took Pena's class and he failed me for my views. He started the class saying he wanted to hear all perspectives and debate different ideas but what he really means is he wants to hear from you as long as you aren't Christian. Buddhist or Atheist are okay. I've been in advanced writing my whole life and presented my views respectfully. Don't take.

If you want to think, if you want to have engaging discussions with a person who has an open mind, if you yourself have an open mind and are willing to take other views into consideration, if you pay attention and care... Take his class; take all of his classes. Listen to him and speak to him. If you are intellectual at all you will love him.

Basically, he talks the entire class period and you have to write key points he makes (or record from phone!). Tests are BlueBook and HARD. He gives you some questions he may ask on test beforehand and then you pick 2 on the test & lastly there are a series of questions & bonus point opportunities. Hard part is remembering key details on test.

This is the way to attain an A: Record the classes and listen to them. Exam questions will come DIRECTLY from his lectures. Take notes and review them. Write all essays and submit them to him for review and feedback prior to taking the exams. Participate in class and send him philosophical news from prominent sources. Grammar and spelling count!

Hands down the best class I've ever had. He encourages participation. I disagreed with him about everything, yet he was extremely open to my views and even helped make my points. He's crazy intelligent and I want to take another class from him. If you're not into serious deep thinking it's not the class for you. Overall EXCELLENT !

The toughest class i've ever taken. If you don't follow his views, you'll be left behind fast. He doesn't fool around at all and isn't afraid to call you out on things. Very strict on how he wants you to do the philosopher essay. His lectures make for the exams to seem extremely tough. For pure credit, there are much easier teachers to take.

Debate is encouraged and he is open for different points of views but in order to win you need to have a valid arguments. You are expected to thoroughly understand the topics discussed during lectures, because all tests were essays in which you explain what you think about the given topics, and why you think such way. Logic is also very important.
