He would grade based on the book and wanted you to quote obscure passages that were never covered in class. He would talk more about his org than about the material. he even failed over 60% of the class on the midterm just so he could "show how generous he was" with a make up. stood up multiple students for office hours or was condescending

I would not take this professor again. He assigns so much reading and is completely unclear about when he wants it all read by. Will tell you quizzes are on certain readings and then add in ones he said wouldnt be included. Expects you to read full size books in like 3 days. By the time you start one hes moving onto the next. Unclear about grading

Save yourself and just don't take Spitzer. Honestly worst mistake of my life. 2-4 chapters of reading per week. Quizzes are tough. Takes points off and doesn't explain why either?? A paper would have a "C" but no corrections or what to improve on. Went to see him to ask what I could improve on and he couldn't even tell me. Wut.

Doesn't follow syllabus, has you read the material like crazy, puts like 6 questions per quiz and test, miss one you do bad. Lecture skills are nonexistent. Answer the questions with anything other than he specifically said in class, you fail. He's honestly the worst professor ever.

Spitzer is very passionate about his work and very sharp. He is very sarcastic and straight forward taking many students by surprise but he means well. He likes to push his students to the limit and make them think. In the end, it helps build character. Some of the other students were a little harsh. Toughen up. Its college not grade school...

Hes a great professor and very passionate about his work. He loves what he does and really appreciates a class that reciprocates and talks with him. The tests are hard and they really test your knowledge of the material but its helpful in the end to fully comprehend the material.

This professor was the most rude, disrespectful, monotone, and unhelpful professor that i have ever encountered at Suffolk University. He is extremely casual about the lectures but then provides no guidance or help in preparation for exams. He is inconsistent and condescending. he sets you up for failure and does not care. DO NOT I repeat DO NOT take Spitzer's freshman seminar or any class at that. He is an awful teacher and his opinion is right and yours is wrong. He grades papers and quizzes way too hard for a freshman requirement class and treats students like they are useless. Avoid him at all costs or you will absolutely regret registering for anything he offers

The other comments are absolutely true. He is boring, monotone, and sarcastic. He will call on you to participate and will berate you for not knowing the answer. He is also very condescending . His biggest flaw is he lacks support and criticism on tests and papers. He doesn't tell you what the tests will consist of or why you for something wrong.

very strict. does not go by the syllabus. dry humor. talks very low. book is read every week. discussions on the book also happens. and quizzes on the book happened because students were showing that they were not doing the reading although, he does teach. he is tough but i don't think he was as bad as some students have mentioned
