Comment:

A very challenging class, but some how I received an A by the end of the semester (B all semester long). lecture heavy, tough grading criteria (but it's fair criteria), BUT he is a funny guy, loves his students, and is passionate about what he teaches. it was a hard class but he made me fall in love with biology. just study, and don't skip class.

Comment:

I took two of his classes and truly learned a lot from him. He goes far in teaching in terms of depth and breadth of the subject he teaches (evolution, gen biol, etc.). He says he is not an easy A guy but he is an easier C guy. I got a B in both of the classes I took of his, without any prior biology (studied HARD). Id take him again!

Comment:

I don't understand bad reviews. He is a good teacher and most important is a fair grader. He takes off 5 or 6 of your lowest quiz scores which really helps. I enjoy drawing so I did do well in that portion of the class. Class is difficult and requires studying but no pop quizzes and no surprises on the tests. Nothing more you can ask for.

Awful professor if you would even call him one. Doesnt have a clue how to teach but is very smart. Super disrespectful if you disagree with him. Tries to make funny jokes but laughs at himself. Dont take his intro class or it feels like AP Bio. Dont recommend him to anyone

Vieira is honestly the most ridiculous professor Ive ever had. You do drawings and if the first letter of the labels isnt perfectly lined up with the others, you get points docked immediately. Teaches one thing and exams are another. Never updates grades so you never know what you have. I would never take him again and if you do, good luck.

Comment:

No bonus in class, a lot of the work is related to biology more then evolution. You do a lot of cell drawings and they have to be very specific or else you fail the lab that is worth 20 points. He usually also gives you two of theses 20 point assignments in a week. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He is funny in some ways but does not prepare your tests.

By far the toughest class I've ever taken. Never wanted to drop a class more. Opens the class by saying that if you finish with a C you're extremely lucky. Absolutely horrible.

This class was the most difficult class I have taken. He will lecture for 2+ hours pointing to power points that do not help on the tests. In lab he will give little direction. Tests are worded so they will confuse you and very easy to misinterpret. If you don't agree with this man he will not like you. Do not take his class if you want to pass bio

NOT AN INTRO CLASS! Do not take him for intro to bio if you're planning on it actually being an intro. He shows you terrible power points and talks for 75 minutes and expects you to memorize all of it. Makes cheesy jokes and his tests are insane. Not to mention half the class points are online. Do not recommend.

Steve is a decent guy and you can tell he's very passionate about the class but he is an awful, awful teacher. The PowerPoints? Ignore them. They will do you no help when it comes to the quizzes. Also, I hated that this class was part online and part in class. Not what I signed up for. I really hope he stops teaching soon. Don't take this class!!!!

I will say he knows his stuff. However I will also say he doesn't teach it well. Anybody can point to a powerpoint for 3 hours. Which in the end doesn't help when it comes test time. He doesn't explain the labs very well or anything for that matter. Expect 12 hours out of class time...not the 6 hours they tell you. Atleast from his class.

Awesome Professor. Challenging at times but very clear and easy to understand. Tests are not easy but they aren't hard either. Really knowledgeable. Keeps class in a loose mood, really fun. If you need to take a bio class take Viera!!!

He is interesting, and makes a lot of jokes. He is a cool guy, and makes 3 hours bearable. His quizzes are not the easiest, but they are doable. Trust me, there are harder teachers for Bio. Take Viera, if you are interested in Bio, you will do well.

He is very helpful, and interesting, he makes 3 hour long classes almost bearable. He is entertaining and cracks jokes often. His quizzes are killers. Many things on the quizzes are not properly covered in his notes.

I agree with the review directly below. Most students don't put in the work required to do well so they blame him. The class definitely isn't a piece of cake, but if you put in a decent amount of time, you'll get at least a B. He's a really smart guy w/hard tests but does curve here & there. Be prepared for a lot of work though and keep up with it

Dont take a class with this professor unless you enjoy spending hours on studying. You might as well teach yourself, because his powerpoints are useless. Use the study giudes and know the quizzes thuroughly, because that is your only hope of passing

I'll give him this. Steve is a very smart guy, but is not a good teacher. The first half of the semester is made much harder than it needs to be. He brags that it is nearly impossible to get an A in his class. Very arrogant and discouraging. His tests and quizzes are extremely confusing.He does not curve.

Comment:

Steve is one of my favorite teachers on campus. Teaches with great humor, always willing to stay after to have discussions or assist in learning a concept. Grades on a curve. Show up, study a little, and do your work, you shouldn't have much trouble.
