Scher is not friendly. She told me that I'd never make it to graduate school. I'm halfway through with a 3.8 GPA. She did not encourage students of color and actually tried to talk us out of being in the social work program. She was my advisor on top of that. I did learn a lot from her though. Stay positive in the face of adversity.

Comment:

Very sweet teacher, and very knowledgable. Really knows what she's teaching. Very willing to answer questions and help you out. Does hold older students to higher standards and has high expectations for certain people. However, I found her to grade very fairly and really cared about her students.

It does seem she has favorites. She has more experience than older students and I think she wants them to know it. Dont feel I can trust her grading. Is it fair? Very knowlegable about Social Work and interesting in class. Good instructor in class. Fairness in grades?????

OK, Scher is not the most tactful of teachers. She can be somewhat unclear and occasionally treats people disrespectfully, but not out of rudeness, just because she believes she is right. Overall though, she means well and knows the profession inside and out. Prepare for some quirkiness but also to learn.

This teacher is nasty and definately racial towards the students. She gives grades to whom she wants to. You can work your but off and it doesn't matter. And about being spoon fead - I don't think so. You come to college to work and the teachers are the ones who need to honest.

this class was a waste of time, but the actual field work was great. she is a nasty lady who is never happy it seems. she def has favorites. she is boring and likes to hear herself talk. no test though, but there is a long paper on your agency (that you get to rewrite)

Speakers were helpful - she was not. Tries to fail everyone so they can get kicked out of the program. She does nothing to help the students. Pretends to advocate for them and stabs them in the back. Think your doing well wait till you get your grade.

Child welfare not hard. A two-page paper almost every week but it's on reflections from readings/speakers, each with three weeks to finish. Speakers teach more often than Scher which keeps the class easy to attend. All work WebCT.
