Comment:

Many of the comments made here are very precise. This professor has no respect for her students and she speaks down to them in a very patronizing and condesceing way. She oftens embarrasses people. For a class that talks about diversity, social justice and socio-economic status she goes against her pedagogy and teaching in the classroom.

Comment:

Prof Dion isn't terrible in the least, despite past comments. She's very approachable and incredibly passionate about what she teaches. If you do the readings and pay attention in class, you'll do well; she WANTS to see you get a good grade! However, she does have her favourites, so keep that in mind. Overall, a great course and great prof :)

I am sad to say that Prof. Dion is exactly as everyone has been describing her. I tried so hard to like her but she does not practice what she preaches. She doesn't foster a sense of community in the classroom and she is such an angry person. You are left with so many questions... I am learning much more through my own research.

The interesting thing that our class has learned is that there IS absolute knowledge when it comes to dion. The course itself is suppose to teach you that there is no wrong answer, however, Dion requires things to be done her way without question. Complete contradiction of the course material.

If you are interested in being a teacher and making a difference in the lives of your students you should take a class with Dion. If you have lived your life in a sheltered existence, always getting your way, and bullying all others then you want like her teaching style that asks you to question and to actually cause youtoTHINK and LEARN something!

I agree with what most have written here. She is very hard to get along with, especially if you do not agree with her (the only) opinion. We weren't allowed to eat or drink in class, but she would do both (double standards). I had no choice but to take the course with her...if you have the choice, avoid at all costs!

Prof. Dion should practice what she preaches as what I was exposed to her in her class was not , by any means, student directed learning or empowerment. Instead, be prepared to be treated like a child. The worst experience I've had in higher education - don't waste your time and money on someone who isn't qualified to be teaching at this level.

The only thing I learned in this communications class was how NOT to communicate. Treated us like children (all adult learners) and demonstrated no understanding of basic manners and respect for others and their opinions. Only her opinions mattered. I was appalled by this class.
