Professor Gubernat made this poetry class enjoyable. She gives great feedback on your poems. We worked in different groups each time to workshop our poems. It was a great way to interact with other students and also gey different opinions on what you can do to improve your poems. I would definitely recommend her!

Poetry was something new to me, but professor Gubernat made it enjoyable. You will do poems and reading logs. Simple and easy class, it was a lot of fun. I enjoyed the class, no stress whatsoever. I recommend this class with this professor.

I love this professor. I took her for Shakespeare and worked hard and received an A. I think she is a fair grader. Helped me understand shakespeare and actually liked it. You dont really need the book. I would suggest using sparknotes translations. She doesnt require attendance but there are pop quizzes that you shouldnt miss.

In the beginning, I was a little scared to take Shakespeare in general, but Professor Gubernat made me enjoy the class. As long as you read the plays, youll do just fine in the class. Shes very sweet and has a lot of knowledge in the subject. Im glad I took this class with her!

Also took ENGL 4075 with her. She's a great instructor and got me to at least be open minded and like poetry, whereas before, going through verses and stanzas was like torture. She's open minded and the pinnacle of cool. She gets a bad rap for being tough, but it usually comes from whiners and the immature.

For a sophomore level course it is intense. She understands that poetry may not be on the top of most student's lists, but she fails to teach it in such a way as to engage the whole class. I don't feel as thought I have a better understanding of poetry or a better appreciation. I leave her course dreading poetry and not understanding it any better.

Take English 2075 to satisfy your GE requirement, no 6 hour computer labs or performing inane skits. You write a few poems (usually 100 words max) and you're done. I only attended half the classes because attendance is not mandatory.

Really awesome class and the workload is totally manageable. I would recommend Dr. Gubernat's class to everyone who wants to satisfy their GE requirement for performing arts. I had never written a poem (officially) before this class and it turned out to be a lot of fun. She doesn't take attendance and grades you with checks and check-plusses

Fun class! I'd suggest taking it. She is easy to understand and always offers feedback on assignments. Willing to meet outside of class and she loves english, so it tends to rub off on her students! A nice&educated professor and a class where you actually WRITE poetry? YES PLEASE.

Professor Gubernat is a great teacher. She is opinionated, but she will listen to all opinions and compels students to be all they can be. Her poetry class will make you a better writer - guaranteed, and it is tremendous fun too. There's a reason her classes are constantly full. I recommend her whole-heartedly!

If you are opinionated, you will hate this class. Find out her views on whichever poem you write your final paper on before you get a worse grade than you deserve for not agreeing with her. In this class, your grade will suffer if you disagree with her.

I enjoyed this teacher but her I felt her grading was a little off. Even though she let you re-write a paper she would only give you a small increase in grade even if it was significantly better. Also, poetry was only open to her interpretations.

She's a nice professor and is helpful, but if you disagree with her on anything she'll be rather bull headed. You'll get a better grade if you just agree with everything she says.

Susan is the best! I took poetry workshops from her and a class in poetics. She mentored my thesis. I chose her because she is difficult, and I knew she wouldn't let me do anything but my best. She wrote six letters of recommendation for me when I was applying to PhD programs. Even when we disagreed, she treated me like a colleague, not a student.

Unclear as to what she is looking for in paper and exams. Seems to have strongly held views on meanings behind the poetry-so discussions drag if opinions from hers are different.

She helped me be a better me, I don't know what else to say. Smart, helpful, knows poems. Loves you to come by her office while you are working on a sestina, and having a little trouble with the form. She just got tenure so if you are doing anything english related, take a class from her, it is worth every minute.
