Comment:

The greatest lesson I learned from this class is to check the professor rating before signing up. She was what could only be described as moody. Somedays she would bring in snacks for the class, and other days she made me cry because I asked a question. If you have no feelings, take the class. If not, find someone else - it's REALLY not worth it.

Comment:

Frustrating, boring, and confusing. The worst teacher I ever had, she is not a very nice teacher. Do not take her class. She has pointlessly long lectures. Her behavior is constantly unpredictable and unpleasant which is frustrating. She has really bad mood almost all the time. She gave me a lot of anxiety.

I have been a professional photographer and took a number of classes from Susan Hoisington while at Cabrillo College and with 20/20 hindsight, unlike the rest of these reviews who maybe took photo as an artistic whimsy, can honestly say she is one of the very best photography teachers in California colleges and Universities.

Most of the time she's in a bad mood and will make it clear to you. Does a bad job explaining things and gets angry when you ask questions. She gave me a lot of anxiety.

Susan is the worst teacher I have ever had. She has called some of my work terrible when all I did was take her advice. Financial requirements are to buy film and paper. About 5 rolls of film is needed equaling about 100 dollars and I used 4 packs of paper at 30 dollars each ( 120 dollars ), I still had to buy other things after that. DO NOT TAKE!

Only teaches to auditory/visual learners. Gives bad advice. Is exasperated when asked a question. Is fickle. Makes you print out her poorly formatted PDFs. Likes to play favorites. How to survive: rely on other students for help, do all extra credit, trust your instincts, ignore teacher, keep track of the class schedule, sleep during lecture

Absolutely the worst teacher I have ever had in my time at cabrillo. She treats you as if you are in middle school class. She grades you on professionalism but yet she is by far the least professional teacher I have ever had. I would not recommend this teacher to anyone.

Susan is one of the worst teachers I have had. She is vague in her descriptions and assignments, yet very specific in her expectations. Those without darkroom experience will struggle because she barely does any actual teaching. DO NOT be fooled by her "excel credit" grading category. This IS NOT extra credit and is required to get an A.

Susan is passionate about photography. She is knowledgable and provides a lot of helpful feedback; you're sure to come out of the class a better photographer. Younger, less mature students have a very hard time clicking with her. Just be present and don't half ass it and this class will be easy and beneficial.

I've taken film photography before, so I had no difficulty with understanding assignments but other students struggled. She provided little information and students who had any knowledge spent a lot of time helping others. She's incredibly unclear with assignments and is very temperamental and moody.

I think Susan is just misunderstood.If you expect her to PRAISE your work then yeah,don't take this class.She gives honest criticism and if you cant handle the truth then maybe think about changing majors.She challenges you to do better,to be creative,& experiment on your own. If something doesn't make sense ASK HER QUESTIONS!and she WILL help you.

Susan is very rude to students and is unpredictable. One day she is very nice, the next she hates you. She grades your art based on if she personally likes it or not. She grades your artwork harshly and systematically and takes points off for ridiculous things. Friends I met from this class still discuss how horrible it was. Don't take this class

I had the absolute worst time in her class, and it was not for lack of effort. She made it a point to put everyone's work down and was inconsistent in her "feedback." I finally dropped the class as a result; it made me sick to watch her tell students their work was okay in the initial stages and then turn around to say it wasn't. Who does that?

Susan is not a good teacher. She is moody and unpredictable and will frequently yell for inappropriate reasons. She is often condescending and unhelpful to students when they struggle with understanding the material. Do NOT take this class. Seriously, don't.

It's very difficult to follow Susans Instructions and she's rude. She has a negative and unforgiving attitude towards her students. She will make you redo work until you run out of time to complete it and then not allow you to turn your work in. She wont answer questions, and wont accept the opinions of others. Take Intro from someone else!

This is my second semester with her an I don't know why I signed up again. It's just as boring as last semester. I love photography but I dread going to this class. Luckily I am on her good side, but she can be very unclear with projects. She is also a hard grader. Last week I had to say an hour late because she made each person go out and take photos individually. Waste of 3 hours in class. Then I got to take photos in the dark. That was fun.

Susan doesn't know how to treat people. People may say "get over it, tough it out" but thats not the right attitude. People need to find their voices and stand up for themselves when they are being mistreated. Susan is abusive. She has some messed up power trip and makes people feel bad. DON"T TAKE THIS CLASS.

Susan is the WORST! She's rude, cruel, and just a downright condescending drag. An art class should be fun and people should feel comfortable to experiment and express their own creative opinion, but not in Susan's class. Susan goes nuts on excel making crazy grading rubrics. She takes off points if you mess ANYTHING up--it's a beg. photo class.
