Great lecturer. He becomes a motivational speaker after the 1st midterm because everyone does so poorly. He allows you to have your final grade be your overall grade, which gave me an easy A+ in the class. Organic chemistry is best understood, not memorized. Follow that advice, and an A/A+ won't be too taxing to get.

hard subject matter and hard professor. easy going and approachable but mentioned in lecture that his midterm and final were the hardest tests to ever take. But if you go to him hes more than happy to help and holds lots of review study sessions.

this is a hard class no matter what professor you get. he does a pretty good job explaining the material. however there is just way too much for him to cover it all in lecture. so if you want to do well in this class, read the text and KNOW it. final average was 81/200 and i got a bit over average, but because of the curve i got a B

who says his test questions come from the hw, i did the hw and didnt see much repetitiveness from it on the test. he's a reasonable guy that keeps you motivated. dont count on acing the final cuz it will be the death of you if you fail the first two midterms and count on the final. his participation points are freebees to keep from failing the clas

Hollis is an awesome lecturer, it was to be in class, however, his effectiveness to teach in class was impaired. I did not get much knowledge from lecture, I had to go to study group, do homework, and go to office hours. His test is right from the suggested problems. Do well on the first midterm and second midterm and you will be fine.

Hard professor. doesnt respond to emails. weird grader (his grading doesnt make sense-labs are supposed to help, but it seemingly didnt...even with an A). average on final was really low (88/200...i think). midterms are really hard. reads of powerpoints and goes really fast. good luck to whoever has him.

Very, very good instructor. I'm actually becoming interested in the class, and feeling challenged by the material. I wish he taught the whole series.

He's funny (I do like his jokes), and yes, he does only do stuff out of the powerpoints. If you read, do the homework (really prepare! remember the mechanisms, and the reagents!), then you're pretty much guaranteed an A. You put the work in, the tests are fair. If you don't, good luck. That's true for any class.

Hardest teacher EVER!..His midterms are difficult! I suggest you join a study group or something. You'll need it to actually pass the class. Lectures are pointless.. he just does stuff out of the book. Do the homework cause those are the kind of problems he will put on the exams. And study/do the practice exams. HARD CLASS!he will challenge you.

Very cool professor. Midterms and material kinda hard but he really tries hard to make sure you get it. Very helpful and is one of those professors that is very approachable when you have questions. Definately one of the better chem prof I've had.

He's really nice, and always trys to make sure everyone understands the material. His exams are pretty hard, but you should be okay if you study the lecture notes and do the homework. He also tries to make jokes, but most of them aren't that funny.

Organic chem professors are notorious for their difficulty. Hollis is no exception, but he is a better lecturer than most. Too bad he mostly reads off the PowerPoint slides, but he does work out mechanisms so students can learn them. Encouraging.
