Comment:

While Dr. Porter can occasionally make mistakes and explain things different than what I was originally taught, he overall made the class pretty fun and bearable for math. There was homework just about every night, so even though you CAN makeup homework by taking quizzes, just show up, the homework was easy and he will gladly explain things to you.

Our 1st day he made 12 mistakes in as many minutes, only catching 3 of them. This wouldn't bother me, but I learned more Matrix Theory in every class that isn't Matrix Theory. At no point did we discuss any of the topics central to MT(Unifying Theorem, what exactly *is* a determinant, what matrices correspond to rotations, ...)

Plan on teaching him for this class. He messes up nearly every example and often doesn't even catch his own mistakes. He's very disorganized. If you take him take pictures of your homework before turning it in because he'll lose it and blame it on you.

AWFUL!!!! just took his final today and didn't do well--- have asked for help numerous times and even went to the review-- STILL DONT UNDERSTAND! avoid at ALL COST! he makes a lot of mistakes and chewed us out for not understanding what was going on in class..

I have had this professor twice, the second time not by choice and I think he is grotesquely ineffective. Doesn't know his material, stupid teaching strategies if you call it teaching, makes numerous mistakes and has to be corrected by his students, poor explanations, does give partial credit but only bc he doesn't know how to grade either.

He is the best teacher to take for any calculus series. Uses great powerpoints and always approachable after class. Cares about students and wants them to excel. Tests are difficult, but if you study you'll do fine! 7 Tests each semester, drops 1 test, 2 quizzes, and 3 homeworks. Homework and attendence mandatory.

Terrible teacher. Doesn't answer questions, tests are insanely hard, even if you understand the material before. Said he consistently has a 65 class average on certain tests and wont change it! sets you up for failure. dont take him.

Most fair prof I have ever had in college. He let us all work in groups for the quizzes and then took the easiest problems from the quizzes and homework to comprise the test. He told you exactly what you needed to know for the test. Take him for Calc!!

Dr. Porter is very very helpful. I was having trouble grasping the concept of calculus and at the same time having a hard time finding a tutor. He willingly came to his office early everyday for me to help me when I needed it. He is nice, funny, and really is concerned whether or not a student succeeds in his class. I would highly recommend him!!
