Schwalbe genuinely cares about the learning process and his students. He changed the way I looked at communications and he is an amazing professor. You will learn a lot from him! People only complain about him because he's a tough grader and doesn't take excuses.

Comment:

People will hate on Ted because he's a little weird, can sometimes come off as arrogant and his tests are challenging. But Ted is one of the most knowledegable professors I know. He's obsessed with bowling and cracks mad jokes. If you're a comm major he is extremely helpful and influential in the field. Overall, he was a great professor.

Ted Schwalbe is painfully narrow minded. Avoid his class like the plague. I don't understand how someone teaching a mass media class can not be on social media or actively in one of the larges forms.

I actually felt that my intelligence was insulted by taking his class. As a media management major, I don't feel any more prepared to work in the field than if I would have spent the each class time watching paint dry instead. Don't waste your time with him or the useless major.

He is the WORST professor I have EVER had. He loves his "power." Assignments have ridiculous requirements and restrictions. He will not be flexible or compassionate toward you in any situation. He's also really rude as well and his jokes are not funny. He takes off a high amount of points for the smallest things. NEVER TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM!

Did not realize such a site existed (had course with Ted over decade ago) and only writing this to try to help others avoid this guy who was literally the worst teacher I had in my entire academic career. In my opinion he is inept, did not cover what was actually on exams and it just totally out of touch with reality. Knew nobody who liked him.

Ted is 1 of the most brilliant professors at Fredonia, however he doesn't translate things to easier terms to teach it to students. Unless you're very smart and have a photographic memory, his tests will be difficult. I took his Mass Media & Society class and it was hard and a lot of work. If you can take that class w/ a different professor, do it.

Have never had a teacher worse than this guy. I had him for Comm 102 and 199, two classes that are supposed to be fairly simple. His tests do not reflect his study guides, and when you call him out on that he just kind of plays dumb. Avoid all classes with him.

He answers your questions with another question. He spends most of the class talking about personal experiences or telling really long jokes that aren't funny. He assigns projects on topics we haven't even read about or discussed yet. He might be a nice guy but I feel like I learned nothing except how to scrape by when I don't know what I'm doing.

Schwalbe, deep down, is probably a good person. However, he isn't great at lecturing, because his way of teaching is asking you for the answers, which isn't helpful at all. He might give you help if you ask in the right way. This class was based off of group projects- where none of his instructions are clear and he's a really tough grader.

I honestly feel robbed, since the description made the class sound interesting and the professor who was supposed to teach, who I heard was fantastic, got replaced at the last minute. And since I already bought the book I thought it would be fine. Exact opposite. I will never take a course taught by him ever again. Also, he is not at all funny.

I am a transfer and international student, and I was very frustrated by his class. He is very stubborn and stricted Needlessly. He is obsessed with his own criteria. He imposed a lot of assignments. He lacks consideration and flexibility. I changed my major because I hate him. My GPA was impaired by him. I really regretted to taking his class.

Overall, he is a nice person I guess but when it comes to teaching he is just down right a bad teacher. He doesn't create an engaging learning environment and he will keep you in class just for the sake of keeping you in class. His class is painful and He honestly drives me insane. Attendance is mandatory in a MWF class. Lose a full letter grade if you miss a class. That means if you are out for a week you fail. Period
