Mr. Bales is awesome hahaha he is so straight forward many would say he's cranky, boring & strict but id say otherwise! he really enjoys teaching! never be late or skip class! we would meet 1 a week & lectures were 4 hrs long 1/2 of the time notes/lecture the remaining movies. his tests are easy & they're take home you have one essay & final!

This course contains 2 take-home quizzes (easy as long as you pay attention to what he said), 1 in-class multiple choice final (30 minutes and 40 or 50 questions), and 1 movie analysis paper (up to 3 options). He also gives you up to 20 points of extra credit. Make sure you make friends with the one who sit next to you. Bottom line, easy A class.

Comment:

Don't be late, he'll put you on the spot. Pay attention to detail, take notes. A lot of movie watching, but you'll actually learn something. Class is funner towards the end. Do extra credit movie reviews, and don't procrastinate on the movie comparison assignment its hard. I still got a B on it but sill it takes commitment. Sit in the front row.

Class was pretty simple. I learned a lot about amazing films. He distributes 2 out of class exams, as well as one essay midterm. The final is simple just as long as you take good notes and it is open book. Overall the class is easy, just take good notes and you will pass.

Best professor there is! He's so helpful and really cares about his students. He doesn't like students being late to class and if you are, he'll call you out in front of everyone. Only a midterm and a final. Quiz every other week. 1 paper and 1 group project. If you put in a little bit of effort you'll pass with an A.

It's such an easy class. Might make you want to take a nap, but helpful with the history of television. He clearly states that you can't be late, leave early, eat, or use cellphones, and talk. Many people complain about him putting you on the spot, but it's your responsibiity to listen to the first day of class, where he mentions it clearly.

Mr. Bales knows what he is talking about and his class is very easy, all you do is watch movies and take notes and the tests are based on the notes. HE IS NOT A NICE PROFESSOR. He will put you on the spot if late or doing something out of the ordinary, and is rude when doing so. Be warned.

Bales is super knowledgeable about film and the history of it. His classes are the same each week: Notes, movie, go over notes then go home. The pace of class does not change at all. Never be late and you'll be fine. Textbook not needed at all.

This man knows his stuff! He's old fashioned but will teach u the basics & help u grow. Don't be late, eat in class or spend time on ur phone. Bales is an old school professor. He expects you to be respectful, on time and full attention. He can be really harsh at times, like you're dropped on the first day of class if you're late. So don't be late or miss any class, even though can be on the boring side. Just pay attention and take notes and you can easily get an A.

By far the best professor I've had in college. I took his 130 news class a few semesters ago. I continued on to his 230 A,B,C and D for broadcast news. He teaches you the basics of broadcast news, and it's up to you if you want to learn more, but he'll be more than happy to help you out. The text book isn't needed, but it does clarify some things.

Even though it's not a hard class, Professor Bales is SOOOO BORING. Oh my god - I took his Film 104 and Film 105 class, and he recycles all of his lectures and jokes! Other than that, he's an okay lecturer. Kind of hates the younger generation.

Easy class. minimal use of book, all the answers are in his notes. Take this class with a friend, just in case you get stumped on the take home quizzes and homework assigments. the midterm is an essay, but it was easy and interesting. Good instructor, fun class.

Very easy!!! I rented the book and never used it, a waste of money. Took the class in the summer, open note test, two take home test. Final is 50questions: multiple choice, matching, and t/f. I didn't study, still Aced it. Key: take notes, be on time, listen to the professor. Pay attention when he gives out answers! He is ok, not mean like ppl say.

Very easy class if you pay attention to the lectures. He is VERY strict about being on time. Will ridicule you in front of everyone if you are late. Does not allow bathroom breaks. If you leave the room, you cannot come back in. All information is from lecture, never used the book. Showed a lot of videos too. Very easy to get an A.

He is easy,does power points for his lectures.No need to buy the book, he suggests to get the book, but he rarely refers to it.Knows about he field came up with the Film program himself.Must have good attendance don't show up late or fall asleep! He will get you for that!No walk outs and no cell phones no food! Shows a lot of informative videos.

Don't buy the book! It's a waste of money because all of the quiz/exam material is in the PowerPoints that Bales goes over in class. Don't ever be late to his class! Other than that just keep up on yours notes and you'll do fine. He's an 80 year old man, so really you're just in for a good long lecture - nothing spontaneous.
