He is really good at what he instructs. Very clear explainations. For an intro class, he really exposes you to a variety of mediums; vine, soft pastel, conte, colored pencil. This teacher really cares about his students. I would recommend him to anyone wanting a solid foundation.

Attendance counts as points. You draw the still life he set up in the center of the room. You can't take a picture of it so finish it by the end of class or you'll have to use what you have for the critique day. Critique is in front of the whole class. He's repetitive and won't stop talking even when you're trying to focus on drawing.

Easy going,funny teacher.Cares about attendance and will give you credit for it.Tests consist of mostly art terms in bold,art movements,and artists covered during class and what they were known for,doesn't really make u memorize dates...He wants his students to succeed and will tell u ahead what will be on tests...Pretty easy class if u like art.

He likes to talk, a lot! He also loves to repeat himself over and over, it gets a bit dull in his class, because he doesn't want anyone to talk. I also did not learn very much from him either since all we did was draw boxes for the first two months or so. Take him if you like drawing boxes, and listening to people repeat themselfs.

He likes to talk, but I've found that if you ask he gives honest and interesting critiques of your work as you draw. I learned a lot by focusing by myself and pushing myself harder. Great class if you're a self motivator; if you need constant guidance, maybe seek another teacher.

Tom is a very likeable professor who unfortunately teaches almost no technique and offers no constructive criticism to take you to the next level. He gives you NO feedback on your art journal and I felt like I learned basically nothing (and I got an "A"). His students work hard for him. It would be nice if he worked as harder for them.

He's really laid-back and an easy teacher. The only thing I disliked about his class was that during critiques he would excessively praise those students who kind of needed it (special needs students, or ones who weren't so good at drawing and were insecure) and pretty much ignored others. I'm quite good at drawing, and while I don't really need the praise, it bothered me to be overlooked.

uhh, he is so boring. he goes on and on and never stops talking about stuff you already now, like what an eraser looks like. he repeats himself like 20 times and the art prodjects are boring and slow. i dropped out. i would suggest anyone else.

Tom's passion is figure drawing/painting. He really shines in this class. He has so much to teach and he makes it all seem much simpler than I thought it was. He's funny and humble, while also being firm and focused on the class. The whole class' drawings improved a hundred-fold thanx to his direction.
