This man cannot keep a subject for three consecutive sentences to save his life. And likewise would die if forced to hold an open discussion or exchange of ideas. Get used to his point of view because it'll be rammed down your throat every day and differing points of view no matter how logical or calmly asserted will be shouted down.

Tim Barnes is wonderful! I agree that he's opinionated & talks over/shuts you down a bit if he disagrees with you, but honestly, at first, when he tried that with me, I stood up to him in front of the class (in a smart, respectable way) & he never did it again. And he always stayed late to help students anytime we needed it.

I was very disappointed. It was an argumentative writing class and all he did was preach to a captivated audience about his far fetched opinions and bias rants. He offended the overweight, different races, and most of all technology! He never once taught us how to write nor did he do any lessons or proof reading. He sweat all the time as well.

Tim was useless as a writing teacher. We spent the first half of class reading The Grapes of Wrath, and the second half reading writings about TGOW. His lectures were ramblings about the TGOW, or himself. No writing exercises, no actual help on papers. The comments he did make made little sense. He's arrogant, rude, and generally a poor teacher

He is very opinionated and this is an aurgumentative research class, so if you have an opinion that differs from his, just be sure to have enough evidence to back up your claims. I did learn a lot of things from this class but I didn't expect it to be so oriented on The Grapes of Wrath. If you want to research a variety of topics to write different papers on I would suggest a different instructor. We wrote three essays on the same topic about TGoW. He has horrible handwriting, have him read it.

When the class began I enjoyed this professor. But later in the term I had a huge problem. He uses negative reinforcement. We used a texbook called Inventing Arguments which taught the class how to formulate an argument. Tim obviously had not read the book. Tim didnt listen to elses opinions and attacked others verbally for disagreement. Horribble

This class should have been called "Philosophies of John Steinbeck" or "Writing about The Grapes of Wrath". Not at all a writing research papers class. He's a cool person, but not a good teacher. We didn't spend any time in class writing... definitely would NOT recommend him.

This is not a class for someone who likes percise direction, and a teacher to relate with. If you like to listen to some ramble about his own views on politics, forgets what he is saying, and yells at you if you say something out of place, than by all means take him. He is very rude, and not understanding. He is a VERY poor teacher.

This is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. Tim Barnes shamelessly attacks the personal beliefs of others during class. He is very contemptuous towards many peers, and just is not very inspiring. He has not ruined english for me, yet absolutely has for a lot of people. Do yourself a favor and do not take this teacher.

He's great. It's true that he is very opinionated and if you aren't open to his incredibly leftist ideals then you should probably not take his class. All that said, he is so knowledgeable and will really help you to be an amazing writer. Would def. take a class from him again!

The worst thing about him I saw was his frustration with simple requests. I didn't write quick enough to copy the note. I asked him after class if I could see the over head. He said no. I said I don't write fast, he said that is your problem. Real teachers are there for their students, he isn't

If you're a christian skip this class or be quiet. Saying that, you will be downgraded for not speaking enough. One guy got docked a full grade for not titling his paper. Not enough time for inclass assignments. I graduated with a GPA of 3.59. Choose Pass/No if your GPA matters (I did).You can't read his notes. His writing is worse than a Dr.'s

Barnes is very VERY self righteous and liberal and arrogant, but if you just laugh him off, he'll be your best friend and your best joke. He's a hard a**, but if you enjoy a challenge you'll love the assignments. You can't call the guy boring! Good discussions, even if he talks about himself a lot. Also, very few assignments, which rocked!

The biggest thing to understand about Barnes is that he is Extremely Liberal. He will try to help you become a better writer but if you are a hard core republican i would not suggest taking this class. He may clash with you and can become rude. If you are not political you will have to put up with it but it is a worth it class.

I hated this class at first, I thought he was off his rocker. However, once he started reviewing our papers I became SUCH a better writer. He's a hardass, but you will not forget him. I ended up with an A, and I worked for it, but it's not impossible. Would take him again.
