Disappointment. Slammed on paper for using cited quotes (said should "only" paraphrase), even though he has published articles full of direct quotes. The paper guidelines were vague, but he was unhappy with my format. The final project had awful directions. Fortunately a classmate posted frustration and got us the answers we needed to do the proj.

Very vague in his lecture. If you have no experience with databases you will not understand most of his lessons. No homework required, however, he is going to require boat loads of work to pass the exams and final project. You will be teaching yourself. "I can not answer that question" is one of his most used replies.

Avoid taking a course with this instructor! Gives little feedback of any value and does not know the subject matter. Very poor at communicating with zero teaching. This individual should not be faculty.

Gives fast feedback! Friendly, polite and helpful professor who gave many options for extra help. I took this Database Mgmt class online and enjoyed the lectures. Not easy work, but requirements are clear and spelled out on syllabus. I will choose him for my doctoral committee!

The class material is very interesting. A few things to note: the class work load is too much. We had to read over 50 journal articles and respond to discussion boards. This is dependent on the number of students in class x 4. He is extremely critical. He comes off as a nice guy but not a good class to take.

This instructor provides NO useful feedback whatsoever and provides NO instruction. Grading is vague and unpredictable with no use of rubrics or expectations. Tends to blame the student for all his shortcomings as an instructor.

Sarcastic & perfectionistic! Thinks he knows classroom technology, but obvious that he is stuck in theoretical world. Has his favorites. Does not seem interested in really helping to educate. Full of himself. Avoid this professor if possible!

Arrogant. Picks favorites quickly. It's his way or no way. Won't assist...just re-directs. Not student-friendly.

This man was the absolute worst professor I have ever encountered. His lack of knowledge for the subject matter was astounding. The students attributed his ambiguity to an attempt to cover up incompetence. Dr. Ackerman, it Is time to make a change.

Arrogant, very vague on his main assignment tasks. Expects office visits for clarification, which he doesn't imply. Will not accept any arguement that conflicts with his view. I considered assignments to be an overload.

I would recommend taking advantage of formative feedback throughout the course. It is difficult to get clarity without this. The group assignments are repetitive and it seems as if these assignments are designed for research purposes.

Class organization a bit disheveled at beginning. New method for class being organized on the fly. Database Analysis assignment closest you get to touching DB. Other assignments are group based with tons of reflection. Make sure that "doctoral level work" is done from the start or an A is the impossible dream. Hope to get a good group for project!

While Dr. Ellis as a person seems to be very nice, I do not understand how they can call this a database class...it's a real stretch. The 1st assignment is at the doctoral level. He appears to be using the class for his personal research on collaborative teaming - which is reflected in the assignments we do in class. You have to take it though..

Spends too much time on one topic and cannot finish all the material in his plan for the week of Institute. He needs to keep moving. The course itself is way too broad and should focus more on database issues. The group project is tough, but prof will help if asked. Keep fingers crossed for hard-working members; that's a key to success with project

And you know what..many did not have it down. Many hated the participation and were more interested in a correspondence course. This was a great class with a great project, and Dr. Ellis was quite helpful..Nova is full of whiners for students who really do not belong in a PhD program.

I avoided taking this class until my last semester. He does not believe in hand-holding - as doctoral students he expects us to be responsible for our own learning. The problem with this class is that there is a group project with the premise that we need to learn to work in groups. If we don't have that down by now, we never will!!
