Comment:

If you sometimes toss and turn at night unable to fall a sleep then I recommend this class. HIs lectures could put anyone to sleep. Attendance is not mandatory at all and he puts notes for all the lectures online. Theres no in class work or any assignments just 3 tests. I read the notes the night before and got an A.

Comment:

His lectures are very confusing and don't correspond to the exams. He goes on tangents a lot. It's hard to pay attention because you get lost after the first 5 minutes. There is no student interaction, he lectures and doesn't communicate with students during class. If you are able to choose a different teacher, I suggest that.

His lectures don't make sense. Only 3 tests. Tests are very detailed. He shows up late to class by 5-10 minutes every day. Seems like a nice guy though.

Very boring, all he does is lecture. His slide shows don't make any sense. Attendance not all that necessary just read notes he posts. He includes random things on the tests but not all that hard. He has a curve but he is the only one that understands it. Only grades on 3 tests, final is not cumulative.

Comment:

Boring lectures, but he posts very detailed notes online. Pretty easy if you're good at memorizing definitions. Attendance isn't really necessary, but if you want to get a good grade, go for the in-class examples that he writes on the bored. Not a fun class, but not a hard one either. No points for attendance, just 3 tests (final not cumulative)

He grades on a curve that nobody understands but him. The homework is more like participation until a certain amounts of points, he does not grade them until the actual due date, so by the end of the semester you do not know if you got all of the points needed or not. When you ask him to clarify, he does it in jargon only he understands.

Would NOT recommend. Lectures are hard to pay attention to & very confusing. He rambles on a lot talking about a map/graph/life. His tests are very hard & over half the questions are just completely random. I feel like he just makes up my grades out of nowhere. There is study guide and the notes/lectures are very unclear. He grades on a curve. :(

I feel like he knows his stuff but he doesn't know how to explain things well. He always strays off topic talking about a map or something in his life. His tests are very hard, although he grades on a curve and gives some extra credit.

Dr Strauss is very knowledgeable about the world of geography but does not have a clear way of teaching it. His lectures are extremely boring and he talks really fast which makes it even harder to pay attention. There are no test study guides or any indicators of what to expect on an exam so good luck to you.

Hes a very passionate guy, also very interested in student learning. He sometimes goes on... and on... and on... about things, but I felt he cared about what he was teaching and got real value in the class over some other classes that I took at UNI.

Tim is the man! Class is boring, but I find him very funny. Exams are exactly over what he teaches in the powerpoints, so study those and you're fine. Curves the exams also. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. Take him!

Well, he's a good guy and all, but this class is just plain boring. Not very exciting. Talks off ppoint. Likes to drag it on longer than he needs to. Only fun part of class is using clickers. Gives plenty of x-credit oppurtunities. Take only if you have to. Good luck.

I really didn't like how this professor taught. He turns the lights off and only teaches from a powerpoint. Both of these made me fall asleep a number of times. I did earn a good grade only because I studied really hard. He also mumbles and goes pretty quickly through the slides - sometimes I missed important information.

I have been in this class for a month now and I still have no idea what is going on. Notes that are given are not detailed at all! I would not recommend this class to anyone!
