One of the best professors I've ever had. I learned a lot more than History by participating in his discussions. Tests are challenging, but if you study and read your textbook (and are a somewhat intelligent person, unlike most of my classmates) you will be fine.

Dr. Allan is an old dude. With age comes rambling stories, an unclear focus, and somewhat of a superiority complex. That said, I really enjoy his class. Yes, we don't talk about anything on the test, and yes he is turning senile, but it's still an awesome time if you let go of your expectations a bit. Just relax and listen to what he's saying.

Allan is a horrible teacher. There were no guidelines to any assignment and he didn't even teach anything, but yet I ended up making 200 index cards for the final that I had to learn. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.

Professor is very funny. Classes were entertaining and challenging. He's definitely old school in terms of teaching. Other reviews fail to note that his stories actually have relevence to the topic, you just have to pick up on it. Tests are quite difficult.

GREAT TEACHER! lectures are on subjective material which is more of an analogy to history. Tests are on the textbook material which is basically read on your own. has a unique teaching method...you love it or hate it....i LOVE it.

I read these reviews and took a class with Tim Allan anyways. Bad idea. He is a nice enough guy but we don't learn anything that has to with what the subject matter is supposed to be. The tests are a joke and don't make sense. Save yourself the aggravation and don't take a class with him.

He tests you on everything except the important information, such as the random content that he knows you cannot remember. He also phrases the questions in such a way that even if you knew the information, you would still struggle with answering. I thought teachers were supposed to help you succeed? Don't ever think about taking this class

Absolutely terrible professor. It's been 3 classes and I haven't learned a single thing, I only have 2 sentences of notes, and his ramblings are beyond unrelated. He doesn't allow laptop usage and instead wants us to print his own 275-page packet instead of letting us view it online like a sensible person. I'm terrified to take his infamous tests.

A good professor if you don't like the straight forward type class. He will go off on religious and life experience tangents. However it keeps it interesting compared to the same old reading word for word power-point crap. You don't need to purchase a book for Hist. 116 and generally his class is easy to pass if you participate.

This class is History 1945-Present. we're up to about 1860. We havn't so much as said the words "cold war" in class. Very nice guy, and if there was a class called "Allan's Stories" I'd take it in a heart beat. But there isn't, and I havn't learned anything. Oh he also took his own test and got a B+ once.

No one passes his tests. But everyone does well on the essays. He cares more about themes, and broad ideas then specifics when it comes to learning. He's also a genuinely nice man, and enjoys a lively classroom. If you speak up in class, you will succeed. If you rack up points when you can, you will succeed. Miss classes, or are late - you're done.

If you want to listen to a man preach to you about all of his beliefs and what he thinks not about history take his class. Tests are impossible, attendance is necessary, and he is a boring old man who has an obsession with his wifes cats. AWFUL class and I am a History major and my lowest grade in all my other history classes has been a B. HORRIBLE

Honestly, I almost have a 4.0 gpa and I needed to withdraw from his class. He talked about absolutely nothing the entire class except for how to get an oxen through a deep divot in the ground. Completely nice guy, just horrendous teacher.

I'm very surprised to see so many positive comments about Tim Allan. His religious views were far too obvious, he talked down to his students, and his lectures had no direction. I dropped his class after two weeks.

Great Professor! I recommend him for ALL of his classes that he offers. Don't be too scared; he's intimidating, but its mainly in jest. He welcomes discussion and oppositions to viewpoints! However his tests are INSANE! It was not uncommon to see some people praying. His essays aren't hard; and he grades easy on those. Oh, and -DO THE PRESENTATION!

This is my favorite professor yet. He is very intelligent and his lectures keep you interested and awake. He is awesome, if you want a great class take it with Tim Allan. The tests are a little tricky but he gives study guides, and the essays are pretty simple.

Outstanding professor. The best and probably the most colorful I've ever had. Demonstrates compelling, unique, and deep insight on topics that is an unfortunate rarity at Fredonia. The tests are not the easiest, but are not the hardest, either. Study and pay attention in class and you will get at least a B.
