His class is inspirational. Lots of homework but he is understanding and listens to opinions.

This class was eye opening and worth taking. Dr. Waltonen is very passionate about this topic and he is extremely intelligent on the topic. The class is based around his lectures and his discussions of the 8 texts read through the semester. Take notes, little details will be on exams. Seems like a quiet man, but is very kind once you talk with him.

I really hated his class so I had to withdraw. The readings are really interesting but he was very very boring. He speaks in a soft voice. He is a nice person but he can be really corny. I do not recommend taking his evening classes. They are really boring and there are only like 10 students. His tests are really hard.

DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE. He is easily one of my favorite teachers I've ever had. He is a fantastic lecturer and obviously passionate about his subject. He is kind and easy to talk to, but also just an interesting person. He appreciates your participation (personally, the class should be considered speaking-intensive). The absolute best.

Waltonen is such an awesome guy. He really cares about his students and provides extensive feedback, which is very helpful. He takes all commentary to heart and never makes anyone feel out of place for what they say in class. Participation is 30%, but if you go to class and talk once or twice each time, you will get an A no problem. Would take!

Professor Waltonen is a good teacher, and his 206 class is quite enjoyable. I was doubtful at first because he speaks in a dull voice and requires 30% participation, but neither ended up being a problem. He's a pretty interesting guy and really seems to care about the material and his students. Show up to class, participate, and you'll do well.

Worst professor I've ever had. Teaches only his own point of view on work, anything else is wrong. I guess if you want an easy grade you could take the course, but to do so means dealing with the ridiculous drivel that oozes from his pie hole. Everything you read, even Whitman, relates to 9/11.

AWESOME professor!!!! Don't let the other comments sway you otherwise. He is a passionate professor who will introduce you to many new points of view. He expects you to be alert in the class, and will pick on you if you are not. Accepts reasonable and logically arguments but will politely say your wrong, if it's not. I will def. take him again!

This is the worst class I have ever taken. He is very arrogant and will not help you if you're failing in his class. He will definitely call on you even if you're not paying attention. Class is all discussion. He doesn't write anything on the board besides a few keywords. I had to drop out because I wasn't learning anything useful...

Waltonen is the worst professors I have ever had. He failed to teach anything clearly, changed project requirements without notification and got touchy when our work was turned in "wrong". Absolutely awful, do not take.

Good professor. I admit sometimes lecture is boring but it's an easy class if you do the assigned readings. Papers are short (2 pages max) and his readings and discussions actually provoke intellectual though and debate. Definately a course you want to take if you like to think at all.

Will this teacher make you write better? Yes. Will he introduce you to works you would never normally read? Yes. Is the class worth taking? Not unless you want to have some one tell you his opinion of what a work means, and then tell you that if you think differently you are wrong. This class is useless, and he is useless as a teacher.

U of R "Weekend College" ... People who said that Waltonen is demanding are spot-on. Those who said he will make you a better writer are also spot-on. He has a wealth of life-experience he is willing to share with the class and fully believes in participation (whether you want to or not). If you're a laundry bag with eyeballs, look elsewhere!

I am currently in his class and absolutely hate! I love English but his class is awful and will make you uncomfortable if you hate being forced into discussions. The material is great but the actual lectures are boring. He calls on people all the time and makes you feel stupid with his vague questions. Very unclear and I would not recommend.

Writing Workshop may seem easy but it's not. I do admit that this guy did help me to write better papers but at times he was ridiculous. You must follow his instructions VERY STRICTLY! And stay close to the bare minimum because sometimes if you go more than half a page above it, he will get mad. Try to be "clever" and funny in your papers.
